eliminate cat and muffler?

On 05 psd 4x4 is it worth doing? I would keep it on the side of the house and put it back on when taken to the dealer. I dont plan on doing any other modes to the truck because of warranty issues. Should I leave it alone or is it worth any possible gains? I do accasionally tow a 8K pound trailer. Thanks, Ryan

Re: eliminate cat and muffler?

I tow at least a 11,000lb trailer and have never felt the need for more power. Truck easily keeps up with traffic. I have thought of replacing the stock exhaust for one of those shiny polished stainless steele one's but the money spent on that can be used for more useful purposes(like gas for my boat). I really doubt by swapping out the exhaust for a freer flowing system will gain anything you could really measure except sound level increases. I have read where exhaust back pressure was greatly reduced, engine efficiency was lowered.

The biggest problem with this exhaust is the muffler. If you get a better muffler, muffler delete pipe or cat back, your biggest gain will be lower EGTs. Towing heavy loads, this is something you may need to worry about. From what I have read, the cat does not cause much of a restriction and will not gain much by removing.
