External Tranny Filter Question

On my 05' F250 6.0 PSD with 75K on the clock I have always used the Motorcraft FT145 filter (the one that looks like a roll of TP)...

Now, because I had to do the change away from my home base (no close Ford Dealer), I purchased a Baldwin P7247 filter at local parts store. When I opened the box there was an "Important Notice" enclosed, which stated "The Filter being removed may appear different from the new filter..the new filter is directly interchangeable." The filter had SPX FILTRAN written on it.

Here is my problem..there are no instruction as to installation..with the OEM filters it was a no brainer...The ends of this filter are different..one (with the writing) has a larger hole with inner blades and I would think this would be the top..only problem is I do not see and way incoming fluid can enter threw this hole...it has no internal hole(s). The other end, with the smaller hole does have a tiny hole and I'm going to assume that is for fluid to pass into the filter...but I'd rather not "assume"....

If anyone has used this type of Filter...sure would like some input..

Thanks,
WING

Baldwin is usually the manufacturer of the motorcraft filters. does you filter look like this one? Baldwin P7247 If not are you sure you got the correct filter in the box? Baldwin is usually ok to use when motorcraft branded is not available (generally the same exact filter). I would swing back by the store and have them pull a couple off the shelf. Who knows maybe this one had been returned.

NTZ filtration, makes the external filter for Ford. Don't settle for anything less.

You can get them at NAPA...

Nope, it does not look like the P7247...still have the box and it's clearly marked "BALDWIN'' and has P7247 on the box and is exactly like the one I got...That's not to say mine could have been a return and re-boxed.
I went by Napa Parts Store and they pulled a filter for my comparison...It is identical to the one I previously got. It too, had SPX FILTRAN on one end...The parts man said the filter was made by Baldwin..he seemed knowledgeable.

I dunno guys

Update on the filter problem

Here is a picture of Wix #57702 that they are saying is for my truck...I went to NAPA's site and their number is #7702 and on their Webb site their's looks the same...

This is what I got...and the Wix, NAPA, and the Baldwin P7247 are identical in looks...

I stand corrected now that i look at the picture it does say NTZ on it. Thanks

Interesting they must have changed manufacturers. I would try to get one of the toilet paper filters. They are very fine grain filters. Try NAPA as Derkperk suggested. In the future try ordering them from dieselfiltersonline or k-man parts (who i used). I can't get them locally either. Plus k-man has the cheapest oil around... :-)
