I have had a problem with my front rotors warping at the least little bit of running in the rain. I have had them turned once and now they are bad again....has anyone had any luck with getting new rotors from Ford? Better results? Or do I have to go to the aftermarket for slotted and drilled rotors to solve this problem?
TIA
Smokn

How would rain warp your rotors? Excessive heat from a sudden panic stop would do it for sure. But rain would tend to cool the rotors. Rain causing warpage is a new one for me.
Quick heating or cooling of metal can warp steel.
It causes the bonds to form in an odd arrangement. Although I don't think the temperature gradient from cooler rain would warp a rotor.

After a big rain storm my brakes started acting funny. I had drove about 400 miles before the rain started. My dealer said the rotors warped because of the drop in temperature caused by the rain. I had then change the brake pads also. I had to pay for the pads but they covered the rotors. So I guess it is possible
Smokin, there is an article on the home page from JLester that covers aftermarket pads and rotors for our trucks. Also there is a company that makes cryogenicly treated rotors also, maybe someone has a more info on those.
Elkchazer, yes I found the site that sponsors this board and it was quite informative. Thank you. Going in to the dealer on Monday and he will turn the rotors and replace pads under warranty so will go that route first. If it happens again I'll replace them for sure.
Thanks
Smokn

My 03 would feel like it had warped rotors, took it in and they said there was hard spots in the pads and would grind the pads. That worked for about 6,000 miles and it would do it again and they would grind the pads again. This happened 3 times but the truck got bought back because of major electrial problems. My 04 just started the same thing but at 33,000 miles instead of 6,000.
Good luck,
Jim

Come down a long hill with the brakes on and very hot and hit a puddle from the rain. You go from very hot to instant cool which can and often does cause warp.

Most every Ford truck I have owned has had at least one warped rotor.
The last one I warped because I did not stop and let them cool after coming down a long grade in the mountains, then turning off-road and driving thru a deep cold water creek. How stupid was that?

Okay, I see the reasoning. Are aftermarket rotors any better as far as warping goes? Is this just a 2003-2004 thing or do the newer ones do it too? I had to replace mine last feb.
Smokin, I had mine turned at 12k under warranty and they have been fine since(42k) I watch the tire man close now and aways tell him to rattle the lugs on loose and then finish with torque wrench when I have tires rotated. Not near as much meat on the rotors as the older trucks, I sold my 95 with 180k and it still had original pads and rotors.
Yeah I hope your right, mine is going under the knife Monday to turn the rotors, dealer said they would check the pads too and warranty it so am happy so far. Just don't want to have to keep doing it.
