FWIW.... we have some customers that are plagued with warped rotors but most rarely have any troubles.
Our local Fire Chief and his Deputy both drive near identical SuperDuties... the Chief can't go 3 months without a warped rotor and his deputy has never had a problem.... I'm trying to get them to swap trucks for a while...

Jim, It's 100% driving habits. I have had 3 superduties and NEVER even put pads on them! My 00 towed my 5er over 40K miles and had 117,000 when i sold it. I did have an Exhaust brake but i still say it's driving habits.........

I agree with the driving habits statement and so will the rest of you. Stop and think....how many times have you seen someone driving UPHILL with their brakelights on??
Far too many people are taught to drive with BOTH feet these days. Probably as a defense mechanism so they can "stop quicker" in an emergency. These are the folks that cause traffic accidents on the freeway 'cuz they jam on their brakes everytime the vehicle in front lets off the throttle (I almost said "gas". What was I thinking on a diesel site? )
The biggest cause of damaged rotors IMO is from driving down a big grade and then standing on the brake pedal at a stop light at the bottom. It puts a dent in the hot rotor and fuses brake pad material on one spot in the rotor. This leads to a pulsing brake pedal that some call "warp". When I go paragliding, (like hang gliding) we drive a load of people up a 5,000 ft mountain called Crestline, dump them off and then the truck gets driven down the mountain fast and there is a stop light at the base. If the driver stands on the brake pedal at the light after getting the brake rotors cherry red, then the "warp" will occur.
When I drive the truck down, I use lower gears to do engine braking, as do all of the experienced drivers. When a newbie drives the truck down, they might drive down in OD and drag the brake pedal all the way down and then stomp the brake pedal while waiting for the red light. The pressure from the brake caliper over the stationary hot disk causes the dent and deposits.
This happened to my F-150 2 times and then I learned; Dont keep the brake pedal stomped after a hard stop. Release the brake and put it in park if you have to until the light turns green. I have never warped a brake since I adopted this strategy.

I agree 100% These trucks have very good brakes on them. However, if your foot is on the pedal all of the time, it will generate alot of heat, and warp the rotors. My '02 had 50K on it, and never a problem, my '05 has 9k on it, and it's OK- and I have made several emergency stops in both trucks. As a habit, though, I keep my nose off the bumper in front of me, and look over top of the cars so I can see brake lights, and decellerate gradually. No matter how good the brakes are on these trucks, the Neon in front of you with his brake lights on will stop faster than you will- and if he's a pedal-rider, you'll never know when it's coming.
