F350 transmission slip 20005

I recently purchased a used F350 Superduty FX 4X4 with Auto transmission and 43,000 miles. Sometimes the transmission slips (allows engine to rev up slightly) a bit when it shifts from 3 to 4. 1 to 2, 2 to 3 are very precise. This happens generally when it is warmed up (hardly never when cold) and with no load as well as a load (although I think it happens more so with no load). Before I take it to a dealer and fork over my life savings, I wonder if anybody else has this issue or knows of the problem. Thanks much.

It's a fairly common problem. Sometimes a reflash of the PCM will cure it, sometimes it needs a new solenoid, but sometimes disconnecting both batteries for a few minutes will cure it.

Thanks Mark. It doesn't sound too serious.

My tranny started to have a long pause when going from Drive to Reverse. Then it started slipping, even though its an automatic, when shifting gears. Then I got on the highway and it would not shift into 4th or 5th gear. Then the Tow Haul light keeping flashing. Is this a tranny solenoid issue or something else?

Thanks,
Tim

Yes, it's something. Without knowing the code that was stored in the computer's memory when the tow/haul light flashed NOBODY knows what's wrong. Once the code is read then a proper diagnosis can start.

I have a 2006 F250 and it is experiencing the same problems. How hard is it to replace the solenoids? I am going to change the tranny fluid soon and was wondering if I could do it them without much problem?
Thanks

To date I have had the solenoids replaced, ECM reflashed/replaced, fluid change and the problem is still there. 3 weeks at ford with no answers other than We need to take it apart to clean it. only 400 miles left on warranty and has me looking for a replacement trans to have just in case it ever fails and give me a reason to build it up. Has anyone managed to get this problem fixed?
