FICM and p0611

So I got a tuner and now can see codes, I consistantly have a P0611, and from doing some research sounds like the FICM is done...a bad FICM also sounds like my starting problem and bad fuel milage. What problem did you have before replaceing the FICM?
Thanks
Jamie

DTC P0611 accompanied by injector circuit codes is indicative of a FICM failure as you mentioned. The symptoms are misfiring, hard starting, no start, smoke and lack of power... yes, fuel economy may suffer. Before replacing the FICM it is important to verify that the batteries are in good condition and all power and ground circuits are are good. Load testing these circuits is recommended. Both bad batteries and bad power/ground circuits are known to contribute to FICM failures. FICM power relays have also been known to cause these codes but this is rare.

A new module does not come programmed.

Thanks, I have very bad starting, a few cyls fire and slowoly more come on as it powers up, glow plugs are working, starter has tons of power, I was running bad batteries for awhile so this probably helped kill the FICM. I just took it to ford and has them reflash everything thinking that the inductive heat update would solve my problem but nothing.

So I have bad cold starts and horrible fuel milage when cold it smokes blue untill warm, but once warm starts likes normal but still horrible milage

Does the engine have any misfires or run rough, cold or hot? Check engine light? Most of the FICM failures we have seen were on trucks that already have the inductive heating calibration.

runs like a sack of sh*t when cold, misfires etc no power. shakes and rattles and some blue smoke. Once you drive it and it gets warm it feels smooth but I am not 100% sure it's not missing. ANd once warm it starts great too. This kind of happened all of a sudden the bad starts, I think the fuel milage happened later but all of a sudden as well. I am getting 4.4km a litre. I don't know if the inductive heat update was done before I bought the truck since it was used and my dealer here are not the most helpful people in the world. I am a HD mechanic, so have some diesel knowledge, but still have a lot to learn since I just finished my apprenticeship. I have deleted the egr cooler completly but still have the valve hooked up. ALso replaced the flex pipes. I did notice a very small improvement on the cold starts after the new flash.

When it starts cold it's like there is no glow plugs. Pretty sure there is cause there is power there no check engine lights, and no white fuel smoke on start up at all.

Like I said earlier the p0611 code is on all the time and today it threw the other codes about injectors. I just hooked up the edge chip and can see all the codes and clear them everyday if there are some. No check engine light though

THanks for the help my do a video tomorrow for some more insight
I am leaning towards this FICM and can get one from a wreckers for $350 cdn and 90 day warrenty so it's cheaper to give it a try then take it into the dealer for diagnostics. I asked them to check the injectors with a cylinder shut down test like I can do on a CAT engine but they said no we will have to diagnose the cold start issue first which sounds too me like they know what the problem is, but didn;t tell me anything as far as codes present etc. I thought it would be easy to do that test while reflashing it is for me with CAT's prgrams but maybe not with the FOrd stuff

THanks again for your help

PS it had bad batteries for a few months but would still start so Ididn't do anything about it untill it got a little cooler in the fall.

I was also getting the P0611 code for a long time, and kept clearing it with the scanner. Truck ran very bad in the mornings or when it was cold until it would warm up and then ran fine. Finally it started to blow blue smoke on startup and then while driving down the road. Took it to dealership and they replaced FICM and 2 injectors possibly caused by me clearing the P0611 and not fixing the problem when it first happened. I would replace the FICM asap before anymore problems happen.
