Filter or what?

I just found what looks like a cartridge that a filter goes in. It looks like the lines from it goes to the tranny. It is located kind of between the radiator and the engine on the right side of the truck. Would this be some type of filter or what? It is on a 2003 F250 with the 6.o. Thanks, Stucky

Re: Filter or what?

It's the trans filter. It sort of looks like a roll of toilet paper.

Re: Filter or what?

It's the external trans filter. It looks like a roll of toilet paper that's more than half used up. Good news is that it only costs about $15 from Ford. Bad news is that the cover can be hard to get off if you don't have an impact gun. The mounting bracket for the filter tends to twist when you put a ratchet to it but the air gun works great. Filter should be changed every 15K miles. Hope this answers your question.

Re: Filter or what?

Does it look like this?

Sounds like you need an owner's manual. You can download one from Ford Fleet for your truck.
