You can use the Fram oil filter as it also oem.

Did mine today. painless. This was my first change also. I have never owned a diesel before.

Get one of these to make oil changing a breeze no wrench for the drain plug, or messy hands, or drop the plug in the pan, sooooo much easier.
fumoto oil drian valves
You get under truck flip valve, craw out change filter, craw under truck flip valve, then fill with oil. Best money I have spent.

Seems like the hardest part of changing the HFCM frame mounted fuel filter for a lot of folks is keeping dry. To keep from taking a diesel bath, I lay a rag in the frame under the HFCM module and then hold a plastic 32 oz. sports drink bottle (mine's a Powerade) with the top cut at a 45 degree angle under the HFCM drain plug. No muss, no fuss.
