haven't changed the air yet but haven't had any problems with the fuel and oil filters from them. The filters Are visualy the same and IMO come from the same place, and are in fact the same filter /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif
Could be wrong but both have the same numbers in the same ink in the exact same spot??
I swore I absolutely was NOT going to get involved in this conversation (one that's been hashed, re-hashed, argued and cussed over and over again on this site!), but . . . .
I recently ordered both oil and fuel filters from FleetFilter. Won't go into the details of why I called and talked to them after receiving my filters (oil and fuel), but learned a lot from the owner (Brian?) of FleetFilter, about the world of filters and filter manufacturers.
The oil filters I received from FleetFilter (NAPA Gold branding) appeared to be a little different than the WIX oil filters previously ordered from Filter1. The NAPA Gold filters do not have a felt pad on the bottom of the filter medium itself; and they have a black plastic sleeve lining the center column of the filter. That said the FleetFilter oil filter, has significantly more pleats in the filter than the WIX-stamped filter . . . for what that's worth (72 vs, 51 . . . yeah, it was a slow day and the sun was shining!) Have not installed one of these NAPA filters, yet.
By visual comparison, the NAPA Gold fuel filters from FleetFilter, look a lot different. When I changed the fuel filters, I noticed the pre-filter (the one along the frame rail) didn't have a fabric-like material surrounding the pleated filter like the WIX-branded I replaced, and both ends of the filter were different than the WIX I had ordered from Filter1. The price is much better at Fleet vs. Filter 1 with respect to the fuel filter pricing. There must be some rationale for the surprising price disparity?!
Don't know if any of this comparison, matters or not. Maybe someone far more knowledgeable about filter mediums and design can provide some additional insight and explanation. Or, better yet, take the time to search TDS.com and post links to all the forum threads where this same subject has been thoroughly covered on previous occassions. I'm too lazy today.
I know that if I buy a NAPA Gold filter,it states on the box that it is made by WIX and NAPA says that their Gold filter is as good or better than OE.I do know that NAPA ain't as cheap priced as Fleetfilters, but I don't know that there is any difference it the quality.

i was in walmart last night (buying filters for the wifes
awd legacy) i spoted some motorcraft powerstroke filters...i
opened the box just to see/compare...and sure enough theyve
changed too...no longer packaged in shrink wrap...they
had the felt ring/gasket on the bottom but no more "made in
germany" stamp (still ref. all the pat. numbers)
as someone suggested apparently the manufactures have
caught up and are no longer sourcing filters from a single
mfg, but rather now they appear to actually be making 'em
themselves.
