I was wiring up my high idle to one of my aux switches tonight and when I got done I noticed there was some fluid leaking out around a seal where the brake pedal piston goes through the firewall. It looks like some kind of seal but I'm not sure. I was wondering has anybody else had this happen to theres and if so how do I go about fixing it? I'm trying to keep from taking it to dealer to save some cash. The fluid has a red tint to it so I'm guessing its power steering fluid which runs the hydroboost?

The hydroboost is leaking. First one i have heard of. You can replace it yourself but it is a relatively pricey item (your favorite local auto parts store should be able to get you one). Just take note of where the power steering lines go to make sure you put them back in the right place. You will have to bleed the PS system but most do this by lifting the front end off the ground and just cranking the wheel back and forth (with the engine running) being sure to top up the PS reservoir during the process. Don't be shocked if you see foam in there just keep topping it up. Don't open any of the brake system, it isn't necessary. Resist the urge drive it around until it is completely bleeded because you will not have power brakes until the air is out of the system... This does not need to be a dealer replaced item. Any descent shop can change it. Although, I would do it yourself if you normally work on your truck. Not a big deal but i would expect it to take a couple hours.
ok thanks for the replies. I usually do work on my own vehicles and I know about getting the air out by turning it because I had to do it with the power steering line I just replaced. I was just hoping I could replace the seal that is leaking instead of the whole hydroboost. I'm going to stop by the parts store tonight and get a bottle of seal conditioner to pour in it just to see if that maybe works. Has anybody on here replaced there's before?

It sounds like the plunger is allowing fluid to leak back. I wouldn't use any seal conditioner in this system as it may work for a while and lull you into a "fix it later" mood. Thing is when these conditioners fail the original seal fails a lot worse..If you were miles from anywhere, I'd say go ahead with the additive, but in this case I would fix (replace) ASAP
