Fuel Filter Question

Want to change the fuel filters today before I leave for a long trip, My tank is full, I read somewhere that this could be a problem when changing the frame mount filter, Is this true, or would it be best to wait for an empty tank, I don't really want to take a bath in diesel fuel. any tips or advice. Thanks.

Re: Fuel Filter Question

Flash,

Remove the HFCM drain plug, 6mm allen. Less than a quart of diesel will come out but you will need a container to collect the fluid. Remove and replace filter. Piece of cake. Once you have replaced both bottom and top filters, turn the key on and you will here the fuel pump pushing fuel back in. Wait until the pump shuts off to start, about 5-10 seconds.

You are going to get some fuel down your arms when you remove the bottom filter. Pre-positioning of your body will help, but you will not be taking a bath.

I changed mine with tank almost full and I did not have any problems.

Re: Fuel Filter Question

Some say to take the fuel cap off the tank (I dont know if it makes a difference or not) but I did take mine off to vent?? I cycled my key about 4 times to re-fill the fuel filters, lines ect.
