if the guy who tried to remove the plug in the first place used the correct metric allen wrench, you wouldn't be going through all this.
why people try force something they are not equiped to do is beyond me...

..says the guy who never had one sieze up on him! Your truck is probably new enough to have come with the steel plug so you won't have problems, but those of us who had the original brass plugs have pretty much all had them strip out by now. I ain't STOOOOOOPID, I know how to read the number "6mm" on the side of a wrench, I know how to keep it square in the hole, how to use gentle pressure, etc. but the third time I went to take the plug out, it was no go. The hole went round and it was all over.
Ford replaced it under warranty, using a steel plug this time around. Check out the archives here, hundreds of people just on this site have had the exact same problem. We're not all just using the incorrect allen wrench.

I DID use the correct METRIC allen wrench and I'm VERY well equipped to handle such a mundane task. I have more tools in my garage than some mechanics and am very adept at using all of them.
I posted this question besause I am pretty sure that if I had this problem, someone else did too and may have a good solution. As it turns out, I was right. Thanks to the kind people here I've discovered two great ways to remove the old plug and was able to purchase a better plug from Diesel Manor yesterday.
It's not my fault the plug was stuck and the material it is made of is too soft. In case you aren't aware diesel fuel acts like glue on threads and mating surfaces..that's why fuel filters are sometimes tight getting off.
Do you understand where I'm coming from or is it still beyond you.....

buy a cheap single allen wrench, use a good two part epoxy to "super glue" it into to stripped out plug, let it dry overnight, re-inforce with tape ect if needed, (after obtaining the new improved drain plug) remove and toss both into the garbage! might try JB weld also!

Genius! That falls into the "why didn't I think of that" category. I will try it as soon as the new plug comes in. If it doesn't work then down comes the front drive shaft.
Thanks to all for the great info!!
