Fuel injector cleaning

I have a 2005 F250 6.0 and I was told that the reason my engine doesn't start immediatly is because the injectors need to be cleanes. The truck has 32000k. I got some fuel injector cleaner from Napa, and no difference, so the next tank I tried Sea Foam, no difference. Can someone tell me what I should use or do? Thanks

Re: Fuel injector cleaning

The reason it doesnt start immediately is because there is no oil pressure to fire the injectors. There is nothing wrong with your truck.

Re: Fuel injector cleaning

i would also be VERY leary of putting anything through the fuel system. i imagine the injector "cleaner" was made for a diesel right? not a normal gas injector right?

Re: Fuel injector cleaning

The injectors require high pressure oil generated from the high pressure oil pump before they will inject fuel into the combustion chamber. It may take several seconds after the engine starts to crank before the oil in the high pressure oil system builds up to allow the injectors to inject fuel.

Welcome to TDS -

Now the bad news. If you used "sea foam" in your diesel truck, you have probably caused damage to all the injectors. Do not use ANY additive to your fuel that contains alcohol, or is made for gasoline injectors. The alcohol will attract water to it which will make it past the HFCOM, and to the high pressure injectors where it will flash into high pressure steam. This will toast your injectors in a VERY short time.

Re: Fuel injector cleaning

Could be the following as well... may not be injector problem!!

1) Clogged or clogging fuel filters (one or both) - low fuel pressure.

2) If fuel filters were recently changed, the cap may be loose and allowing air to enter the fuel system... once air is purged, it starts.

3) Was the oil filter recently changed? If it was overtightened it could have a crack... if the wrong filter was used or did not seat properly, it may be allowing oil to drain out of the oil filter canister... which delays oil pressure to build and fire injectors. Some have commented that some WIX/NAPA oil filters have caused a "drain-back" issue.

Do any of these things sound like they mey be a contributor?
