Fuel leak at upper filter

Occasionally I have been smelling diesel fumes inside the cab while driving. It appears that there is a fuel leak right at the upper fuel filter. Have not yet determined if the leak is coming from the fuel lines connected to the filter assembly or the assembly itself. It is not a loose cap or leaking from the seal on the cap, it is definitely below that. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it more likely that is leaking from the fuel lines or possibly a crack in the fuel filter assembly?

I had the exact same thing. Mine was the gasket from the side of the housing where the fuel lines came in. I had to buy that entire kit from ford part number 3C3Z-9T517-AE just to get the single oblong shaped o-ring gasket. If that is it, one warning, I replaced most of the extra parts also but ran into a problem with black plastic piece that goes in it. Kit had differant shape than mine and it allowed fuel to slip by making noise. I put old one back in and fixed it.

Dealer charged me around 60 bucks and no leaks since.

Mine was leaking at the banjo fitting at the back of the fuel housing. I needed two copper washers to fix the leak. It took the dealer about 45 mins to find the right part number, after they gave me the wrong washers. The part number in case you need it is: F6T2-9160-AA. For some reason it was hard for them to locate it. However the front leak is by far the most common.
