Fuel leaking

I was towing my trailer home last weekend, and everything was fine. Then I got up to go to work on monday Aug. 7 start the truck and waiting for it to warm I smell diesel fuel. So I get out and look under the hood nothing, look under the truck and I see diesel fuel dripping from what looks like the back of the motor. Has anyone had this problem? Would greatly appreciate any help.

Re: Fuel leaking

I've had the same problem with my 02 f350. I've noticed if I park it on a downhill slope, no leaking. what gives? I'm just glad it's not oil.

Re: Fuel leaking

Well, it appears it was a FUEL FILTER O-RING leaking at the housing on the motor. Maintenance type issue really, as fuel filters are suppose to be changed every 15000 miles. Last time I remember changing it was at 15000, and now we are at 45000...
While I was at the dealer getting the filters changed they mentioned I should have a 45000 mile injector cleaning to make sure my 100000 diesel engine warranty stays in effect too.
I think we were so gun-shy that when we saw the fuel leaking we skipped thinking about the small stuff and jumpt to the worst conclusion and threw it into the shop.

Ask then to show you were in the engine warranty fine print that "injector cleaning" is required to keep your 100K mile engine warranty valid. It could probably be found under the snake oil clause....

And just what do they do to "clean" the injectors? Take each one out and give it a little bath with Johnson's baby soap and a rubber ducky?

There's a cute little injectors, let's get you clean up behind your cute little intensifier piston.....

Since you've got a 7.3, I'd take a good close look at the metal fuel line running along the passenger side cylinder head. It goes through a metal bracket under the turbo, and the braket will wear into the line and cause a fuel leak. It only leaks wit the engine running. If you park it on a downhill slope, the fuel will flow away from the drain hole in the back of the block.
