Re: Fuel lubrication additives----- What are you using?

Tried them all recently and really don't see any difference, they even smell the same. The Ford product looks the thinnest. Of course it really doesn't get as cold here as it does in other parts of the country and so far my fuel has been good. I will say that Power Service is by far the most readily available. I have had Standayne on backorder through ShopDiesel for a month now, I may just have to cancel that order and move on.

With a 6 - 8 week delivery, DIS should be able to deliver its winter formula by spring!

[/ QUOTE ]

Hmmm.... That's interesting. I ordered some two weeks ago and the guy in the Brown van dropped it off a week later.

If 6 to 8 weeks in too long, could you please enlighten the rest of us where we can get some sooner?

Re: Fuel lubrication additives----- What are you using?

Which stanadyne product are you guys using? I'm interested in something to make up for the lower lubricity of the USLD and wondered whether performance formula covers that as well as the cetane, or if you would have to use the lubricity formula to get good protection?

Right now I'm running power service since I could get it locally. I don't have any complaints so far, but figure if the stanadyne is oem approved I ought to give it a try. Need to figure out which one to use.

Re: Fuel lubrication additives----- What are you using?

Matt_Shade,

Stanadyne has a Performance formula that has lubricity and cetane improvement as well as s Performance JR that has no cetane changes but does have lubricity add packs. Then they have a lubricity only formula and a winter blend as well. Most folks get the Performance formula as it has cetane and lubricity properties. We have all of them sitting here avaialble to be shipped at any time, no wait time and such etc!!

By the way we are LOOOOTs less costly than the link that was posted aboev too!

Plus Stanadyne is OEM approved too, don't think any of the competition is??

[/ QUOTE ]

What exactly does this mean? If I'm not mistaken Ford oil is OEM approved, but I wouldn't use it and does that mean I couldn't use it in a dodge or chevy. I guess what I'm asking is how does a manufacturer get that OEM endorsement. Is it actually decided through extensive testing by Ford or is the approval given by Ford after each additive manufacturer supplies an internal report. The reason I ask is because if you line up brochures from all the top additives, they all have the #1 product. I owned a Dodge before and actually used there OEM approved additive and still had both pumps replace twice before 100k. I spoke with a guy at the diesel pump the other day and he swore by his additive of choice, tranny fluid. 1/2 quart in each tank. Don't get the wrong idea here. I use my additive of choice and I guess it works. But I don't honestly know, it just became a ritual, I guess.

Re: Fuel lubrication additives----- What are you using?

You dont need any. ULSD is supposed to have them in it already and meet standards for older engines.

Re: Fuel lubrication additives----- What are you using?

I have been using power service.I run the white bottle in winter and grey in the summer. I have been draining the HFCM and have yet to see any water. They claim it is a great product for lubrication, cetene boost, prevents gelling. 32oz treats 100 gallons.Cheap insurance I guess and peace of mind.I can't say I see any milage gains but a friend of mine swears by this stuff.I bet all these products are similar

Re: Fuel lubrication additives----- What are you using?

Thanks for all the great info guys!!

I have been using power service and it seems to be working well.

I have become more concerned with this recently with the last tank of LSD being about 4 tanks ago, and immediately noticing my fuel pump being louder after running some ULSD in the engine. So just trying to find some products to help minimize any affects ULSD my have on my engine.

As we all know 6.0's need all the help they can get

Re: Fuel lubrication additives----- What are you using?

I would assume that using a 1/2 gallon of the old Standyne Performance formula won't hurt the truck? I'd hate to waste the money.

Re: Fuel lubrication additives----- What are you using?

11% biodiesel. Excellent lubricity and it's included in every fill up where I'm at.

Ford doesn't require the use of any additive. I am running my truck without it. If I start to have multiple problems, I will chalk it up to design problems with Ford and look elsewhere next time..

In my gasoline cars I don't buy expensive grades of gas--it is just money down the drain. I will bet and hope with the Ford it is a waste as well.

With my VW and Nissan diesels I racked up many a mile and never had any problems running without additives...
