Fuel Pressure Gauge

Will any off the shelf fuel pressure gauge work to test my fuel pressure? IS there some adapter to buy or will the one from the local auto parts work? Also the reading should be 55 psi right? Thanks for everyones help.

There are two schools of thought regarding fuel pressure measurement. Some techs prefer to make the measurement at each cylinder head (from the rear of the head would be the ideal, I guess) - a banjo fitting and bolt would be the logical adapter... Sorry, I'm not sure of the thread size.

I feel that measuring the fuel pressure at the test port on the secondary filter housing should be adequate.... again, a special adapter is required ($35 here in Canada) but someone may have found a work-around????

Some have tried plumbing a fitting in to the cap on the secondary filter... bad choice since this is before the element and may skew your test results.

Where-ever you choose to measure the pressure, it should be read at wide open throttle on the highway.... You need to be sure that demands on the fuel system are at their highest when performing the test.

Ford has a fuel flow test gauge that simulates high fuel demand using a calibrated orofice... Tool number 310-193.

You can get one of these -

Fuel Pressure adapter and hose (for remote location of the sending unit (install lower than the fuel filter bowl test port that it connects to).

Also, DFUSER sells the fitting. Be careful on install of the fitting. Some people have torqued down on the fitting and cracked the filter housing.

Ford 6.0L Powerstroke Fuel Pressure Gauge Adapter Fitting

Normal fuel pressure will be probably around 60 psig (this is when the recirculation valve starts to open). Never go below 45 psig. Higher than 75 may risk o-ring failure.

The fitting you need is is: M12x1.5 to 1/8" NPT

Fuel Pressure Gauge

This web address will show you what you need to know.

http://dieselmanor.com/diy/DM-FPA60_installed.htm

This is located at Diesel Manor (Diesel Performance at DieselManor, Inc. - Taking the Mystery out of Diesel Performance™). It is under the install sheets (located on the left side of the home page about half way down the page under the "Resources" section).
