Gas in the fuel tank

Guys, I had my head in my arse today and accidently put about .5 gallon of fuel in my tank. I then filled up with 25 gallons of diesel. Will the diesel dilute the gas enough so it will not make a difference.

Re: Gas in the fuel tank

If you had taken the standard TDS way out and blamed your wife/gf/son/daughter/pick one, then your engine would probably be doomed, destined to never run right again.

Since you admitted your mistake (or perhaps didn't know of the TDS standard way out....), you're probably ok.

Re: Gas in the fuel tank

LOL, I was going to say "a friend of mine" or "my fater in law has a question".

Too much BS, I just wanted the truth. At least I diluted it and will probably fill up with diesel every 2 days or so for piece of mind.

Re: Gas in the fuel tank

Oh, you wanted the truth? Well, don't listen to me, I've only had a diesel since Feb. 1, 2006 and I still: Look for the green handle, read the "diesel" sign about 4 times, check the reciept and circle the "diesel" on it and then, ask the clerk if indeed I got diesel. Drives her up the wall (I get my diesel from the same place locally).

Re: Gas in the fuel tank

I thought that we weren't supposed to put anything other than diesel and a diesel supplement (if we choose) in the fuel tank? Supposedly the injectors are too "sensitive" to handle that stuff? Please explain...

I was correct in what I typed, .5 gallons (half gallon), then added 25 gallons of diesel. After doing some reading, it seems as though it shouldnt affect anything at that dilution ratio 50:1.

I did a google search on this topic. Its amazing how many times a wife, friend, or someone else has made this mistake. Yet the poster is always looking for the cure?????

ABSOLUTLY DO NOT PUT ATF IN YOUR 6.0 FUEL TANK. This may have been approriate for an older IDI type engine but it will not do your 6.0 any good at all.

Use a good diesel suplement with lubricity additive in it or B-5. Its your warranty.

Re: Gas in the fuel tank

Both of my vehicles are diesel, and I still triple check the pump everytime I pull up to fill up with diesel. I even painted my gas caps fluorescent orange as a visual reminder. And I got my first diesel on Oct. 8, 1999! So, as far as I'm concerned, you can never be too careful. Especially when you read that there is no industry standard as to the colors of the pump handles to use as a visual cue.
One station, diesel pumps are green. Another station, they are yellow. Another station, they are black. I rest my case.

Re: Gas in the fuel tank

I have a friend whose wife actually did put gasoline in their 7.3 once.

Re: Gas in the fuel tank

So I should be OK with the small ratio 50:1 that I had accidently introduced?

Re: Gas in the fuel tank

There's probably at least that much left as residual when they are shipping diesel in the same trucks that they delivered gasoline. Or at some of the stations that use the same nozzle for diesel as they do gasoline.
I for one wouldn't worry about it. But its not my truck.

Re: Gas in the fuel tank

Good point. The engine is running the same, sounds the same, smells the same, and there is no difference in exaust.
