Well,
After 1 week with the new to me truck, it's been to the dealer twice. They just called and said it needs a new turbo. I'll be back up and running Wednesday.
Got to updated my sig with truck specs.
I've got 4:30 gears, anybody change them out to 3:73 for mileage? I bought the truck to tow a 26' fiver, and its a little overkill for my 9-10k# trailer. I'll either swap gears, or go with taller tires to drop the r's at hiway speeds.

I have 3:73 gears but I want to change to something in the low 4s and add a locker when I can afford it. I pull a flatbed with a bobcat and a three horse living quarters trailer. I live in Colorado, lots of hills and the speed limit is 65 most places. Problem is, with the 3:73s the engine wants to shift all the time at 65. I can't build boost and get any power until I shift and get some RPMs, and then by the time I get back up to speed it's in overdrive again. At 75 things are okay, the turbo is much more responsive and you shift less but it really wants to go faster. I'm not comfortable going 80+ in a horse trailer with three horses. I'd need way bigger brakes for all the brake-checking a**holes.

One thing I forgot to mention is if you aren't making enough boost because you don't have enough RPMs, your EGTs skyrocket. I run 1200-1400F EGTs regularly when towing up hills. I've cleared 1400 a few times. If you shift down and get RPMs back, EGT cools right off.

Whats the tallest tires you guys have seen on a stock dually? Thinking 285-75-17 but not sure if they are too wide? I run just over 2200rpm at 70 mph, so the tire change should get me a tick over 2000 r's at same speed.
The truck came with brand new tires so I'll have to figure something out with these.

Got the truck back yesterday afternoon, went to move the 5ver, brought truck home only to wake up this morning to a puddle of oil. Truck is back in the shop 3rd time in less than 3 weeks.
Called dealer where I purchased the truck and expressed my disapointment, they said they'd call back with a solution. I hope they don't tell me to trade it in on the cash for clunkers program.
