Exclamation Got My 350 6.0 a Month ago and its got issues...need some help

Hey Guys, I bought a 2004 f350 lariat, 4x4 cc lb 6.0 about a month ago used, Its making a few strange noises and I figured I'd ask for some advice on here before a shop does thousands of dollars of work to fix what they guess the problem is......

Anyways, the first one I beleive is called Turbo "fluttering" or "Cavitation" when I matt it and let off the throttle the turbo/exhaust makes a sound like ...whoosh whoosh...Apparently ford released a document saying it had to do with the vv turbo, and that is was not an issue, but I've also read that that will shorten the life of the turbo?

Second issue, which I think may be egr related after an incident with my buddys 350....When I have the cruise set at around 50 mph and I'm heading up a hill and the truck downshifts to accelerate it gets to around 27-3100 rpm then starts to cough real bad and looses power during its little coughing fits......but it seems to do it only when I'm using lots of throttle??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My turbo makes the whoosh sound when I goose it and let off as well. I think that part is normal.

The first question I also agree is normal. The excess boost pressure has to go somewhere. I hardly notice it anymore and I rarely drive that way. I don,t see how this can cause any turbo problems.

The second question is probably normal also. I rarely use cruise control and never at that low of set speed. I,ve found that cruise control is not really usefull on these things unless your on level running without a lot of hills and downshifting. I wouldn,t be surprised if my truck did the same thing when locked in cruise in that situation. Just my opinion.

Also, if you have a tuner on the truck, its probably going to amplify these instances.

How many miles do you have on the truck? The turbo "fart" is normal and the truck is designed to do this since there is no blow-off valve.

My 1st turbo on my 06 did the same thing when I left off from heavy pedal and it ended up going out completely and the dealer replaced it.

Issue #2, When were the fuel filters last changed. If you have no idea or it has been awhile, start there. Your description sounds like possible fuel starvation.
