Re: hammer it or pamper it?

Don,t worry about it, just drive it and enjoy your trip. Normal hiway speeds will will provide high enough EGTs to keep your EGR system cleared out. At 3K miles I would suggest changing the oil first though, if you havn,t already.

Re: hammer it or pamper it?

- Change oil

- Hammer it

- Enjoy it

In that order.

Good luck - wiping the smile off your face.

Re: hammer it or pamper it?

Your not going to have any problems, the only rule is to get good fuel. Stick to the truck stops or large chain stations and you will be golden. I would drive it like you would any other car (that you own). Nothing special... The only real major advice I can offer is not to read this forum as what is going to happen to you. People who post here are doing so because they are having issues. This is my second Excusion with a diesel and the only problems I have had with the 6.0 was an egr valve (that needed to be replaced) and a water in fuel light that was solved by draining the HFCM on the side of the road (make sure you have a 6mm allen wrench). Don't worry about it, just take care of it, do as much of your own maintenance as you can and enjoy it.

Have a nice trip,
mark

P.S. If you haven't changed the oil the first time, I would do it before you leave. The first oil change is usually done at 2500 to 3000 miles. Use a good 15w40 oil and a motorcraft or fram oil filter. Most get their parts at walmart. The filter will run you around $18 and rotella T runs about $7 per gal and you will need 4 gallons. It holds 15qts. Grease the front end at the same time. Just look around for zerk fittings and check the U-joints, some also have zerk fittings.

Re: hammer it or pamper it?

and get a few 0-60 runs in ( hammer it ) mine bucks a little but i think that is because of the limited slip.
