local Ford dealer said I have huge coolant pressure build up and heads will have to be removed and tested for cracks. It is being towed now to get repaired. I picked up heads from Heads Unlimited in Surrey.
strangely (to me it seems strange), when it puked coolant before 1st head gasket job, and now when it pukes coolant again, truck always seemed to run fine. I'm told if I would have left it, it eventually would have been a lot worse and left me stranded somewhere.
headsunlimited has always been excellent to deal with. At $800 per head, I think they are also very well priced. their location is interesting.... right where you'd stick the tube if you were gonna do an enima of Whalley/Surrey.
But if you are in their 'hood, Tokachi at the corner of 108 & King George Hwy is the best japanese food you will find.
2 stroker i just looked at your sig. How do you like yer '06 compared to the '97?
When I got my 06 it had 17k has everything on it even the DVD player in the roof so the dog has something to watch on the road plus it has 2X the pulling power of my 97 (got it new) but M/T I think my 97 is quicker. I like the trans on my 97 with the PacBrake and ATS converter lock up better than my 06 when coming down grades never have to use the brakes pulling grades different story. With 123k on it I still have the same brakes on it have a new set to install in the brown box from Ford but still have around 40% left. I use my 06 just to pull my 5er and my 97 is the grocery getter. My 97 rides like a lumber wagon and the wife does not like the ride, I tell her its a truck

I try not to go to Whalley but the Japanese food sounds good. Try to see your truck with it's cab off, mine was quite the sight. When Bernhausen did mine, the cab off work went really well and now you can't tell it was done. Hope all goes well for you, let us know how it comes out. Good luck.
trot down to your local petro-can dealer, and buy a pail of duron 5W40 synthetic. that is all i have been running in all my cars and the truck for about 8 years. starts great runs great use it year round. i have been running archoil for about a year now as well. starting was always first try, until I put the 80 hp PHP tune in it. just dies once or twice before it stays running but no smoke or anything. just not a good winter tune
Does this mean your truck is back home? I use rotella 5-40 and my 03 really likes it. I usually get the oil and Motorcraft filter at the American Walmarts for almost half of the Canadian price.
heck no, my truck will be out of commission for awhile. I really only need truck for hauling camper & trailer, and occasionally other odd jobs. It is uber-expensive on fuel, and even more expensive to keep it running. I am becoming bitter and jaded. I will park it and put storage insurance on it until I need it in the Spring. Maybe a day permit here & there. the money I save will more than pay for the car i just bought.
So sorry to hear things are not going as well as expected. When I had mine fixed and had to pay the big price I will admit to being jaded also. I went to the salesman who sold me the truck, and a few other Fords through the years to chew his head off. At the time I had to talk to someone and he listened. I have driven the truck for part of a year now, it is only used to haul a slide in camper and now I have put some T6 back in it all seems good. I can't afford a new truck so this one will have to do as it is very low mileage and still looks good.
repair facility is chewing me out for running Edge. I run level 3 (maximum, never higher), sometimes level 1, and level 2 when I tow. in the world of tuners, I think that is pretty mild and easy.
I carefully monitor all temps very close and I'm almost 50 and don't drive hard or crazy. my temps are never high.
I called Bernhausen yesterday. Their main guy has done 350 head gasket jobs on 6.0L, with ARP headstuds. He only had one return with a composite head gasket (instead of OEM ford head gasket...ford head gasket was never the issue). They also always send heads out to get pressure tested or magnaflux tested. I believe they told me before that about 1 in 3 need heads.
In a way I hope my head is cracked as it will be a big relief to know that is the issue (flip side is: I don't want to spend the extra $$). Otherwise, I will never be able to trust it to not suddenly puke again for no reason.

The shop thats working on you truck are on the ball when they say the Edge sucks when it comes to tunes. Edge makes a great set of gauges but the best tune for these trucks is the SCT Xcallibrator3 W/ Custom Tunes, this is safe tune for the trans.
Hope you have done a coolant flush and ditched the Ford Gold coolant or change it about every 30k because when pulling the Ford Gold can't take the heat. You also need a coolant filter to remove casting sand. Your sig is MT so I don't know if you have one or not. If they are going that deep have them install new STC fitting, bummy plugs and standpipes or you will be back in there again down the road. Hope you are on the road soon.
