come on guys ,this can't be the first time this has ever happened !!!i thought this was a helpful site !STROKEDIS
Well, I will say this, we were on a hunting trip up in Michigan, my buddy filled his up with unleaded, I noticed it was smoking ect, he drove back to complain about bad diesel fuel and then called us and said he filled it up with gas, I drove two towns to get new fuel filters, they drained the gas into a 55 gallon drum with a hose (siphoned) replaced filters, filled up with diesel and drove it away, at a half tank he refilled and before we left for home he had the oil changed, to this date he has not had any problems out of his truck, if it was my truck I would have dropped the tank, we couldnt change the fuel filters again because we bought the only ones around. He is still driving like crazy, this is why I wont let anyone fill my truck up on trips, my buddies give me %$^&* for it, oh well!! good luck!
P.S. we were in a very small town, he probably put 50 miles on it before he figured it out??

GrampyJim - what areas do you think will have the highest possibility of damage? Injectors? Internal engine components? Others?
To me, it makes the most sense to completely empty the fuel tank and drain as much of the fuel system as possible. Change the fuel filters (the soft parts may not be compatible w/ gasoline) and then just drive it.

It is definantly not the first time. Thats why you could search and find probably 50 different threads on this happening. I think you already know the answer anyway. Get the gas out and diesel back in, change the filters, and tell your "friend" not to let the wife fill it up again.
A bluegrass friend did this to his Chevy a few years back and he drove about 4 miles and the truck shut down. The dealership said the truck did what it was supposed to do and didn't harm anything other than pride and the checking account.

Too much gasoline in a diesel can cause it to lock up but usally will cause failure in the injector pump and damage the injectors you can also clean your injectors if really afraid you can clean your injectors
