Question High Boost/Low Power

Hey havin some problems with the feel of the ride lately. Shes not pickin up and stayin as steady as she used too. Ill romp on it in level 5, edge juice platinum w/ bully dog intake and she used to take off and keep boost around 20 keepin ya in back of your seat. But now ill do it and it hits 30 psi boost quickly and feels like there isnt any power or at least the amount their used to be... No troubles or codes for it...

Ideas??

Thanks !!!!

How does it behave when you return it to stock? Could be the turbo or it could be a sensor. Troubleshooting is easier with stock programming.

dunno but when its at any level its runs high boost psi with low power output. this has only started happening within the last two weeks. thinking sticky vanes and may need turbo pulled and cleaned...

Maybe... but if you are still seeing high boost I would start to think EGR valve first. Might want to pop that thing out and take a look-see.

Mine is doing the same thing. It has gotten worse over the last couple weeks. Took it to the dealer and they said the fuel pressure is way low and needs a new fuel pump and injectors.

Stuck turbo vanes can cause lack of power at acceleration AND also at high boost situations (as PCM kicks in to control boost).

I think pulling the EGR valve is always helpful to see what kind of combustion you are getting.

tried pulling the EGR a couple weeks ago seeing as i dont think its ever been done before i had it. Couldnt get it out. Tried several diffrent ways and im a big guy and couldnt muscle it out... might have to pay someone now.... was thinking of using penetrating fluid and just shotin it around the seal but not sure what the liquid would do if it seeped past the EGR?

Try not to use penetrating fluid as it's bad for o-rings and sensors/actuators and won't likely get past the o-ring to help you anyway. Use some lightweight oil of you want to help it out. You just have to pry it out, the heat from the EGR makes the o-ring stick pretty good.
Also agree with bismic: Stuck turbo vanes (if they stick closed) will cause too much boost pressure and low power due to the reduction in exhaust flow. And if you only had twenty PSI before, than you may have been sticking open too. twenty is a little low.

Try rotating the EGR valve 15 degrees or so. I hooked up a fuel line handle over some heavy duty wire. I hooked the wire to the eyelets of the EGR valve (where the bolts went through). I then yanked up very hard and tried to twist it a little at the same time. It was hard, but it came out. It was nasty.

yes stuck turbo vanes seems to be the issue. anyone know a ballpark for havin the turbo pulled and cleaned by a ford tech? i dont think i can do something like this...

with the EGR i used metal wire wrapped in eyelets and a wooden stick, i snapped the stick trying to get her outta there. also used a screw driver to pry it out, no luck, and lastly a large adjustable wrench to clamp it down. nothing worked. the EGR was rotated first before any of these were attempted and still wouldnt budge. also had my bro help me out...

That is almost exactly how I did mine. Instead of a handle I looped the wire to the eyelets and used a metal bar to pry up on the loop. It was quite easy with the leverage.

Same problem here...just happened a week or so ago. Romp on the accelerator and she pulls nice, but when the boost hits about 20-22 psi she seems to fall flat and not pull anymore. Run SCT Custom Tune from ID and she usually would see at least 25 psi (sometimes more when pulling the trailer). If possible, let me know what the cost of cleaning the turbo is. I think I also remember seeing a DIY thread that showed what to do. I need to look around because I tend to like doing my own work.
