High idle mod question

I did the battery charge protect on my truck a couple months ago, and just helped a friend do it on his 06. One questions I just thought of was..... We both have remote starters....so...If we leave the upfitter switch on, and the parking brake on, then leave our trucks overnight, when we fire the truck up in the morning, will it instantly rev up, or does the motor wait a little bit to warm up, then idle up? I know this is a stupid question, but I am nowhere near either trucks right now, and was just curious for when I get home (mines sitting in a lot at the airport, no doubt a block of ice.) Does anybody have any experience with this? thanks

Re: High idle mod question

Mine usually takes about 30 seconds or so when it is cold to raise the idle. When it is fully warmed up, it usually does it within about 5 seconds.

Re: High idle mod question

Mine revs up hot or cold. Sometimes there is a 10-15 second delay, but that's all.

I would imagine so if your are wired thru the high idle. I would keep the switch off. Nothing sounds worse than a 6.0 ramping up to 1200 rpms on start-up in 20 degrees.

Re: High idle mod question

I have flipped the switch on mine like that when it is cold, BUT let me tell you the engine will rattle and knock something fierce. To me it didn't sound good. As with the battery charge that will be on the low side so the PCM would want to kick the idle up faster than 1200 RPM.

My opinion I wouldn't do it.

Re: High idle mod question

Okay, thanks for the quick responses. I guess I'll go out and start it (kicking the high idle off), let it run a little bit, then kick it in. My truck sounds like it's gonna blow up even at a normal rpm when it's cold. I don't want to hear it revving.

Re: High idle mod question

I have my high idle hooked up to my remote start with a timer relay. It comes on 3 minutes after the truck starts. The factory high idle kicks in first up to 900rpm and then my timer kicks in 1200rpm(orange pto wire not battery charge wire). Works great even in the -18*C we had a little while ago.
