Another question in my search for a truck. I've come across two trucks, both Lariat ccsb, both listed for sale at $24,900, both come out at just under $34k NADA value. Here's the info on the trucks --
'06, August '05 build date, 11/05 in-service. Truck has all options, 35k miles, all stock, no drill holes in bed for 5th wheel, only incidental service/reflashes on Oasis, clean Carfax. Drives great.
Concerns -- warranty will be up in 10 months, so I'll have to add/negotiate 7/200k warranty into purchase price, or come up w/ cash by Nov. to purchase warranty. The truck has sat on the lot for 2 years! -- "lot rot" issues? Has bucket seats, which I'd eventuall switch out for a bench for more seating. Pre-commonized engine -- additional reliablity concerns/lacking upgrades like improved hpop?
'07, build date unknown, 75k miles. Most options (bench seat, no sunroof, no 6-disc changer). Oasis report shows only 1 repaced injector @ 59k miles, reflashes, etc. Truck is located at a dealer 100 miles away, so I haven't seen it/driven it yet, but if I make the trek out there, I want to have a good idea in mind of what I want to do if it checks out. Aftermarket wheels, and I like the color slightly better (Blue w/ tan trim/tan interior). I'm guessing it will have 18 months to 2 years or more engine warranty remaining -- based on my driving (10 - 15k miles/year), I'd probably just hit 100k in about that time period; plus, if I bought the extended warranty when the standard warranty expired, that would likely give me 4 years of warranty coverage, which is as long as I would probably own either truck, anyway. Should have the commonized 6.0 -- potential for increased reliability over early '05 built engine?
Concerns -- twice the miles for same price, lacks a few additional amenities that the '06 has.
So which would you buy, assuming the '07 drives and looks good in person? I'm not afraid of 75k miles, but 35k is almost brand new, and means less wear and tear on much of the truck (interior, accessories, etc)! On the other hand, I'm worried about the '06 sitting for so long on the lot, and based on my research here (thanks everybody!) and elsewhere, it seems like if I can get a truck with the commonized 6.0, that's probably the way to go. What do you all think? What else am I missing?

well if a diesel is serviced like it should be they can go for several hundred thousand miles,so,if your gonna do the extended warranty id buy the 07,if no warranty id prob go with the 06,but have it checked carefully before driving off,or negotiate some type of if it breaks within 30 days you fix no questions aked.
