Just bought my 03 F350 with 151k on it. I've added 200 miles to it. No maintenance or repair records came with it, so no clue what it's been through.
Looks great inside and out, makes me suspect/hope someone took care of it. Has a 5th wheel. Still learning on what to look for. Gonna take this truck as far as she'll go.

I want to bring this back to the top. I have an '06 with 168k on it. This truck pulls 8000lbs daily, pushes snow all winter and has a vbox spreader in it with at least 2 tons of salt while pushing snow. The repairs have been minimal. 1 injector, turbo VGT ring, IPR, STC fitting, oil rail "o"rings, egr delete when cooler went. Other than that everything was expected from plowing and hauling. 1 set of balljoints, all ujoints, 2 lockout hubs, 1 set of brakes at 120k. Trans at 130k (my fault, broke a cooler line and didnt know it) oh and a window switch. I change my oil every 5k, trans service every 15k, all other fluids every fall. This truck is bone stock. Never had a program on it.

My question is, do you feel that the truck in the warmer areas have a better track record and do you think most people with head gasket issues have programs?

My 04 has 145k and my 06 has 112k. A good friend of mine just sold an 03 with 588k, he has an 07 with 389k, another 07 with 360k, and an 05 with 425k right now. He also has a couple 6.4s with 250-300k along with a couple 800-950k 7.3s. His crew runs a few miles. lol. He did the exact same things with his trucks as I did with mine before he had any problems. Coolant filter, and EGR delete. The only truck with head studs is the 05 which blew the hg's 50k ago.

Excellent thread revisit...

I have an '07 F250 with 130,000 on it. The only issue I had under warranty was an EGR valve replacement. In April (~115,000), I had the EGR Cooler and Oil Cooler replaced as preventative maintenance since I plan on keeping this for a while. In November, had a rough start and rough running issue. Had 3 bad injectors. I went ahead and had all of the injectors replaced as well as the FICM replaced to save on future labor. Hopefully my significant investment in Bulletproof products will pay off. I need to get at least 200,000 out of this truck.

The injectors in the trucks are double shots instead of the single shots like the 7.3 had. The point is that they send a slight amount of fuel to get it burning then when it's fireing time, it sends the rest while the fuel is pre burning. This idea cleaned the diesel engine up a lot which helped meet epa standards easier. They do wear out a lot faster and are way more sensitive because of this though. They tend to wear out around 150-200k from what I hear where 7.3 injectors don't wear out till around 300-400k. Being way more sensitive also means that cheating oil changes or fuel filter changes will wear them out WAY FASTER. These injectors need as little fuel restriction as possible as well as clean oil. A well maintained motor should last around 200k on injectors. Most people which is the mast majority never even change fuel filters much less oil every 10k which is where you hear all kinds of stories of 100-150k injectors on these trucks. I hope this gives you some insight. This is just the little I've learned over the years.

There's also an issue with the fuel pump IIRC, not putting out enough pressure. There's a modification(I think it's called the blue spring mod) to raise the fuel pressure. Fuel pressure is very important for these injectors.

230K @4800 engine hours. Going strong on the original injectors in my 2006. I can't recall what I've replaced due to "wearing out" but that list is pretty short. I haven't had any of the major stuff others posted. I have been running modded for a long time and only last year did I have studs installed.

FICM electrical health is key to injectors as is oil changes and clean fuel. Good batteries, clean fuel supplied at the right pressure and regular oil changes with OEM filters will do wonders for the injectors.

I didn't go cheap on oil using synthetics since clocking 20k on my truck. Maybe that's part of my good luck.

i have a friend with a f350 with the first year of the 6.0 with around 230,000 injectors have been done twice computer once lift pump once turbo grenaded itself on the highway around 180k on and if u replace the fuel filter cap dnt buy aftermarket we cracked the original by acident and got and aftermarket one and put it on and truck wouldnt start at all the aftermarket caps dnt puch the filter down enough to push down the spring at the bottom and they leak like crazy went and got one from the dealer and got one the truck fired right up.
