High pitched Whsitle on Accerleration

Hello All

I have a 07 F350 DRW PSD 6speed that started making a high pitched whistle/squeal on acceleration after startup or after idling for for a few minutes. It sounds like something to do with the turbo. I haved modified the exhaust but this was done at 10,000 miles and now have 33,000 so it is not that. I really dont want to take to ford because of the holidays and I have to go to Florida on the 30th. any help is appreciated.

Re: High pitched Whsitle on Accerleration

I m ruling out exhaust leak because after you get going it stops. After it gets warm or i get through the gears it stops until I stop for a period of time and take off again then it will do it again.

Re: High pitched Whsitle on Accerleration

Is this only upon acceleration? Is it speed related? Boost related? Mine does this also although mine is a 7.3 pre 99. Mine does it occasionally under load any where from 15 psi to 25 psi of boost. I thought it might be the intake due to a dirty filter along time ago. I also thought it was the turbo but the different psi's lead me to believe it is not. Just trying to fine tune your diagnosis, it might help me with mine. David

Re: High pitched Whsitle on Accerleration

My 03 6.0 had a high pitch distorted whine when underload and started to loose it's performance turns out turbine in turbo came apart. It was it's third Turbo at that point. Get it checked out before it leaves you stranded. I had brought it in to the dealer a couple times already to find problem but they didn't find it, soon after it really let go and started a small fire in the engine bay. (Oil leaked onto the exhaust is my guess) I was able to blow it out.

Re: High pitched Whsitle on Accerleration

Mine gets a strange abnormal whistle when pulling a heavy load up a grade when its lugging.

Dealer couldnt figure it out and wasnt interested in doing a test drive to see it in action.

Re: High pitched Whsitle on Accerleration

Mine screams at about 15+ PSI. It sounds like it might be blowing off excessive boost.

If I keep it up around 20 PSI for about 5 minutes or so it will squeel really loud when it gets down to 10 PSI (like a bad bearing). It keeps that up for about 20 minutes then quites down (at 10 PSI).

I'm on a trip in FL. When I get back to GA it's going back to the dealer. The first time I complained about this the rep said he didn't hear any abnormal noise. We'll see what they say this time around.

Does someone make an aftermarket turbo that is better?

btw - I spoke with a Ford rep at the Homestead NASCAR race this past weekend; he was there showing off a cutaway 6.4; he said they switched turbo manufacturers.
