High Pressure Oil Pump and IPR

I have a 2005 F250 6.0. I have decided to make the repairs myself and was looking for advice for the following questions.

1) How long should a job like this take?

2) Do I need any special tools?

3) How detailed is the job? Is it bolt on parts or internal parts?

4) Is there anything I need to also look for or be careful to do as it relates to these repairs?

5) the Ford dealership is doing a recall repair and also noted that the oil cooler screen needs to be replaced, should I be concerned about trash in the oil cooler and replace it as well? Their quote for the reapirs was 2800 but did not mention the oil cooler itself, jut the screen had a hole in it.

6) Am I foolish in trying to do the repairs myself?

I will be using OEM parts which I got at a significant discount compared to what dealership quoted.

Semper Fi,

Gary

If you are mechanically inclined and familiar with this particular engine, the job is not that bad. But if you are not, then I would not attempt it yourself.

On a related note, I see you are new here and have 6 posts on this board. 3 of those are basically covering the same topic, yet you chose to post them in separate threads, each of which you started. I understand your desire to get answers but you are hampering your chances of getting the information you so desperately seek by spreading this out over so many threads.. If you would confine this to one thread, you would likely get better information and get it faster..

Just a suggestion.

If you are not familiar with this repair you could very easily end up with high pressure oil leaks and driveability issues. You will need some specialty tools but nothing you cant get your hands on. The high pressure pump is directly driven off the camshaft so yes it is an internal part.
