We hear that the 05 superduty 6.0 is equipped with an hour meter which measures idle time. Does your owners manual advise you of that? If, for example, you have 15000 klicks on your odo, but the meter says 1250 hours, your basic warranty is expired. Uhuh, including any/all parts NOT affected by a running engine. Think switches, axle seals, transmission, weatherstrips...etc.
Your dealer didn't know either.

They seem to cycle through several bits of information... including the hour meter. I haven't heard nor asked what the hour-meter means in the way of warranty coverage.... It's sure going to help when someone lays the "I don't let it idlle much" crap on.
The hour meter was one of the first things we noticed when our first units came in and, IIRC, it was covered in NMT and it is described in the owners manual.
Considering the 05 model year is nearly half over, is it wise for a service manager to admit he's a tad late in knowing what his guys are working on?
LOL, yeah I was looking at an 05 at a dealer the other day and discovered it. The salesman wasnt real amused to see the truck had 2.5 hrs run time on it, and 5 miles....

OK, so how many hours are you "allowed" before warrantee is deemed expired??

Based on his first post, it must be 1250 hours.
Oh, and just for fun, I took 36,000 and divided it by 1250. That basically amounts to 29 mph!!! (If my math is correct)

I have to stop by the shop tomorrow (Saturday).... I'll try to remember to take a peak at the warranty and policy manual to see what's up with that part....

....or how about the pre-2005 trucks that do not have an hour meter? Do they get all the "time" they want just as long as they are still milage approprate(sp) for warranty?
Sounds like a crock of to me....
I don't think it will be a warranty issue (at least not yet) except where they could try to use it to show that you might actually have idled it excessivly. Of course down in LA the average speed during rush hour is something like 30mph but out here in the desert the traffic moves along at close to 90, so they would have to somehow prove where you did your driving before they could say the miles don't match the hours. Although if Ford follows GM with OnStar (or something like it) they will have that information available to them in real time. Could lead to a nasty confrontation with your Service Writer.
If you don't think the technology will be used that way then you better look at how some rental companies are already utilizing it to, after the fact, slam drivers with a HEFTY surcharge for speeding. When questioned, the company was able to produce the date, time, and duration of the offense. I believe they also were able to give the locations.

I actually like this idea. My town car had an average mph. After reseting (and Ive done that a dozen or so times), its always settled to around 35mph average speed. My commute is about 75% highway, and I usually drive about 75mph on the highway. So, @ an average speed of 35mph times the warranty time of 1250 hrs, thats a 43000 mile warranty! So, even though 29mph average sounds slow, it isn't much slower than my 75% highway 35mph average.
