I did a search but didn't come up with just how to change the two filters in the 6.0 PSD (2004) Does it take special tools? I want to learn how to do it myself. Also how to drain the water from whatever it is called. I would appreciated some some advise for a novice.

Just did my '05 yesterday. I parked with my bed a little higher than my front. Drained the HCFM with a allen head wrench (remove plug)---you will get about a pint or more. Used a 36 mm socket to take out the filter. Bought racor filters over the internet $35 plus shipping. LUBE THE O RING! Replace filter and tighten. Remove smaller filter near oil filter (25 mm socket?) same procedure. Without starting the vehicle, turn on the ignition three times to get air out of the lines---and start her up! I did mine while changing the oil. Didn't find any water in oil drained from HCFM. Run a search on the 6.0 Bible to see actual parts and placement. Its pretty simple as long as you know where everything is.
How do you change the filter under the truck without getting a diesel bath? I drained a pint or more from the HCFM until it slowed to a small stream but it never stopped. After about five minutes I placed a drain pan under the HCFM and continued to change the filters. The HCFM continued draining until I finally put the drain plug back. Is this normal or was I just impatient?
I did not do it this way. I parked with the front higher then the rear, opened the gas filler cap (to release pressure). Opened the cap for the engine-mounted filter (smaller of the two black plastic caps, bigger one is the oil filter). <under the truck> With a 6mm Allen wrench remove the brass plug on the side of the aluminum thing mounted on the inside of the frame drivers side under the drivers seat. It will drain about 8oz of diesel and should eventually stop. Once this happens you can then use a 35 or 36mm socket to remove the black plastic cap on the rear end of the aluminum thing (called the HFCM). Be very careful that you are turning it the correct direction you can crack it if you turn it the wrong direction. It will turn easy one direction and hard the other... Pull off the black cap. The filter will stay in the HFCM, you can carefully pull it out. Put the new O-ring onto the plastic cap and lube the ring with motor oil. Put the filer back into the HFCM until it seats. You can tell when it is seated because it is a semi snug fit. Once you have it seated, you can screw the cap back on and then tighten it with the socket. Since it is an O-ring you just turn the cap until it touches the HFCM frame. It will stop turning but be careful not to tighten it down too tight. Just snug it. Put a little oil on the O-ring on the brass plug and reinstall it. You are done under the truck. Remove the plastic cap on top of the engine. The filter will come out with the cap. Remove the filter, it snaps into the cap. Change the O-ring; snap the new filter into the cap. Lubricate the O-ring with motor oil and reinstall the cap/filter until the cap touches the aluminum frame then just snug it down. Climb into the truck and turn on the key wait until you no longer hear any noises (fuel pump turns off and vacuum pump turns off). Do this 5 to 10 times. This will prime the system. Reinstall the gas filler cap. Start the truck and let it idle. I would idle it for a few minutes (I let mine idle for the time it took me to clean up). If it dies on you then you need to recheck the caps to make sure they are seated. Reprime again. If you are still having problems then remove the lower filter and make sure it was not damaged during reinstallation. I have heard that if it does not seat correctly it can be damaged during cap instillation. The filer set can be had from your local International dealer ask for the filter set for the VT365. It will be two filters and two O-rings in a box. Be sure to drive it around the neighborhood a few times to make sure everything is ok. Do not be surprised if they are jet black when you pull them out. This is normal.
Can someone post pictures of the allen wrench "6mm" plug we are supposed to unscrew to drain the water in fuel filter. I looked under my truck, abd I think I see it on the rail where everybody is talking about. Also when under the truck, Is it the plug on the side next to the HFCM or in front when you are laying down with your head pointed towards the passenger side of the truck? Sorry I just dont want to screw it up..

Have you checked your manual yet? They might not have changed it yet, but on mine it shows this nice little drain with a lever. But of course there is no drain with a lever, just a plug to to drain the HFCM. Either way, though, the "plug" should be easily identified if you look at your diesel supplement manual.
But to be a little more helpful....if you have your head pointed toward the passenger side, the plug is toward the front of the truck on the HFCM. It takes a 6mm allen wrench to work it. I don't recall seeing anything else down there that a 6mm allen wrench fits in.

its right by the frt. drive shaft just below the drivers seat on the frame. lg. filter & module assy. brass plug w/ 6mm allen. kinda hard to keep clean w/ the driveshaft in the way. it splashes onto the driveshaft unless you have in on a lift. you can also purchase a aluminum socket from any tool man & it will fit the oil filter cap & lower fuel filter cap. i use a 1/2 in. extension & ratchet on the upper fuel filter cap. There is a special socket if you care. You don't have to have it but it is nice. It is a Snap on S3624. There is a 24mm socket on one side with a 36mm on the other end. You put an extention in the side your not using. http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?...re&tool=all
The 36mm works on some HFCM caps, but not on others. My HFCM cap is a 35mm. Others on here have posted that they have 36mm HFCM caps. Having the tool would still be useful as the oil filter cap is a 36mm and the fuel filter cap is a 24mm.
