I just replaced my EBP sensor....what's all that black crap?

Well, I've had my EBP sensor replaced once and it cured my surging at idle. It was starting to do the same thing so I replaced it myself this time.

The line that leads to the EBP sensor has A LOT of black soot looking stuff in the line that looks to be accumulating. Is this normal? In order to avoid a moderator deleting this thread I will try and word this next sentence delicately.....I have an extra EGR that stays plugged on top of my engine, but the EGR that is actually in the engine is closed up (I have it like this because I only use my truck for off road purposes). Would the EGR in my engine that stays closed have any effect on the soot in the line leading to the EBP sensor?

Re: I just replaced my EBP sensor....what's all that black crap?

Answer to the Q is no. EBP is an exhaust back pressure sensor. It measures the pressure of the exhaust in the manifold. To do this is must be exposed to the exhaust via the tube. because exhaust runs through the tube it will look exactly like your tail pipe as it also has exhaust running through it. If anything the lack of the functional EGR may help reduce it. Hope this helps tried to put it simply.

If the soot is on the outside of the sensor, you have an exhaust leak. They probably created it when they changed out the EBP sensor the first time. Either that or the Y tube, or the tube leading to the EGR cooler.
