my local dealer wanted something like $35 per bottle of vc-9

I think I paid about $26 at my dealer. Also I used 2 quarts, I think it said not to use more than a 10% ratio so I figured since the coolant capacity is 27 1/2 quarts that 2 quarts would still be under the 10%. If you are flushing make sure to remove the block plug on the drivers side to remove about another gallon when draining. If you don't remove the block plug you will only get about 3 1/2 gallons by draining the radiator and removing the lower hose. To get the 50/50 mix you need to add 13 3/4 quarts of coolant so if you don't remove the block plug you may have trouble getting enough straight coolant in the system. The block plug takes an 8MM hex.

One on each side of the engine. Passenger side is behind the starter. You do not need to pull this one if you flush four or five times. The water will be clean. I went thru approx. 20 gals. of distilled water doing mine. Smart & Final has 2 1/2 gal. jugs for $1.99 ea.

VC-9 does a great job. I use it at the dealer after an oil cooler failure because it is about the only thing ive found to get all of the oil out of the cooling system. definetly recommend innstalling a coolant filter as well.

After reading about all the things I have to do to my truck I am going to be busy. I have to ask....where do you purchase a coolant filter ? Thanks for the good info.

It's been mentioned before to remove the t-stat to speed up the flushing process, but then usually stated to reinstall the t-stat when done. Why wouldn't you want to just replace the t-stat? I know on prior gas engines I've owned, when changing coolant, I would replace the t-stat with a fresh one. Could someone explain this to me please. Should I replace the t-stat when I flush my coolant?

D..WAG on replacing t stat. is, its out/stick a new one in unless something obviously wrong with it. Its fairly easy to check out how T. works using boiling water/thermo., but probably not done anymore. JMO!

My drain after the vc9 was no where near that dark, and i drove it on the interstate for 57 miles before i drained it.

05 4x4 CC, Harpooned Tank, 2 1/2 front leveling 1 3/4 rear, 285 nitto dura grapplers . , 03 Turbo , .129,900 miles dieselsite coolant filtration.

Just flushed my 02 and changed the t-stat at the same time. No reason to not to if you have kinda miles on the truck. Mine has 180k.
