Info On Block Heater Cord (Splicing new plug end on?)

I recently had a slight wreck that pushed in the right side of my front bumper a little. Evidently the end of my block heater cord that you plug up is not wedged up inside the bumper, and I cannot get it out (Must have gotten smashed up in there somewhere during the wreck). My question is I can get to what appears to be the other end of the cord (The one that has a blue and an orange piece on it), and want to know if I can simply cut this wire near where it is wedged behind the bumper (Towards the plug in end), and splice another wire to it that has a plug on it and use it that way)? Does anyone know if this is possible, or if I am asking about something that is a big no-no? Thanks.

You are better off replacing the entire cord. It may be hard to get a good seal where you put on the new plug.

Sure you can splice it, but I would only consider it a temporary fix. Assuming you are going to get the body damage fixed I would have a new OE cord put in then.

I placed mine on the front bumper. You can see it in the members photo section. Someone here gave me the idea.

The Marinco plug looks like a good idea. Clean things up a little. The question I have is do you have to cut the end off the factory heater cord and hard wire it to that Marinco plug? I googled it and got the idea that it does need to be hardwired. I would like to see the Marinco with male one one end and female on the other. That way it can be connected without cutting anything.

yes, cut the end of the cord off and wire it into the Marinco, ine has been on for about 2 years I guess, I dont plug my block heater in much, but I do know it works if I need it!

Re: Info On Block Heater Cord (Splicing new plug end on?)

Looking at the front of the truck, just to the left of the license plate bracket, I thought I had a pic of it in my webshots, but I didnt, I can take one tomorrow if it helps, I drilled through the plastic, it was easy to install.
