Excellent post for sure gentlemen.

I have the Banks Big Hoss Bundle with the PDA and have been watching the Engine Oil and Coolant Temps slowly diverge. (A Friend and Ford diesel mechanic told me to watch the temps.) I have achieved a delta of +16 deg F (for short periods). I guess it's time to fix the oil cooler problem. I plan to install the head studs and the coolant bypass (?) lines on the heads at the same time.

On another note, I installed the MagHytec transmission oil pan and my tranny temps dropped significantly (added 8 quarts capacity). Also cooked the limited slip differential clutches and replaced in kind with a 0.30" tighter pack and added the MagHytec diff cover (added 2 quarts capacity). Just a heads up. The MagHytec stuff is high quality.

Again, excellent post! I will use your information to repair mine.

2003 6.0 SD-SB Crew Lariat, 89,000mi. Love the truck, even with it's quirks.

Regards,
Joe

I'm taking my good buddy the long-time Ford diesel tech out for dinner tonight - he drove an hour from his place on a Saturday along with his tools and diagnosed, pulled, purchased and installed the destroyed sensor in about 45 minutes after he arrived.

Saved my ass -it's good to have friends.

The engine oil temp is in there - I'll look it up tonight and tell you what it's called on my unit.
I can't get my insight an computer to communicate. The fusion software connects but the insight controller says it isn't connected. I'm gonna give edge a call in the morning.

Hey Matt - I don't know why you don't connect to your Insight - mine has always connected when I plugged it in.

If you would like, it won't help until you can successfully connect, I can send you my profile that should work with your unit too.

Let me know.

Well I found out today that the issue with connection is that the Insight software doesn't work with Windows Vista. I can't believe this, I not too happy and they don't seem to have any date to resolve it. Total BS IMO.

Find an older XP machine

That's a pain in the butt GW - see if you can find an XP box somewhere and then install/run the software.

Doesn't take long to update the unit once online.

Did you pressure test the old oil cooler to see where it was leaking - and by how much?

If you're referring to my oil cooler problem - they don't leak - they plug up and don't flow the coolant through as they should.

Not a good thing.

Ran the insight in an xp pc today and it connected like it should. So i setup all the parameters that I wanted to monitor. I get it back in the truck and didn't have them in my display. I definatly saved them to the insight so now I'm not sure what to do. I don't seem to have any oil temps only egt,ect and a few other useless parameters. Is it possible that the oil temp isn't monitored? On the bulletproof setup it just relocated the cooler to the front lower cowling?

Hey gw - you need to choose Diesel EOT and make sure to write the settings back out to the device as well as save it to disk.

The bulletproof setup I purchased (with the new bracket and hoses) installs behind the air conditioning condenser - not as it shows on the website.

Just make sure your truck does NOT have a 17" tall tranny cooler or you'll have to design a custom bracket set to move it down 2" or so.

Not to hijack this thread and turn it into an Edge Insight question session, but it sounds like a handy tool to have on a 6.0L (or any diesel) trucks, especially for preemption on oil cooler and EGR issues. My question is, are the temp. sensors for the EOT and other points already installed in the truck, or do you have to install temp sensors wherever you want readings to come from?

Definetely interested. I was looking at your first pictures yesterday and the cooler you have looks quite a bit different from the Bulletproof website. Interesting.

Yes, the EOT and ECT are already monitored and can be exposed via the Edge Insight - just don't try to run their software on a Vista PC

I set mine up so one of the screens shows nice 2 bar graphs of EOT and ECT - easy to compare at a glance. Also set up the alarms to monitor both ECT and EOT.

They must be there, at least for my 05' 6.0. I don't have Edge Insight; I have a Banks Powerpack with their PDA. I have been monitoring ECT vs EOT since last summer, so the sensor must be there!

From what the Neal Technology guys have been telling me, it's the same cooler but they found an alternative position to mount the thing.

It's definitely a substantial piece of hardware - very stout construction. The alternate mounting location ends up not changing the outside appearance of the truck at all - looks stone stock unless you know where to look for the cool billet oil filter mount.
