injector cleaner

just got back from reflashing my truck and seeing if that helped my issue with buckin and jerking but with no luck. so i decided to have them check the injectors and cyl 2 and 5 arent good under a load but fine when at idle. we ran the truck in tow mode trying to get it hotter to see if that made a difference and it was very little. but when he hooked it up to check the egr system it showed that it was 85C which he said was too cold and the thermostat may be hurting it also by not getting hot enough to let the injector cleaner work. plus my mpg is 14.7 with no trailer but running it hard. and when i havent ran it hard its only 16.5 or so. he said the thermostat could be causing that as well or at least not halpin me. what temp should it be? how can i check the thermostat to see if its workin? if you guys dont think thats it was is a great injector cleaner. ive tried to hunt someone with a wynn injection cleaning machine but nothing. thanks.

I have to admit to being somewhat lost on your original post... I am not familiar with so-called "injector cleaners" so I have no idea how they work. That said, I am not sure what the thermostat has to do with any of this. To actually clean the injectors, the "cleaner" would need to be in the fuel, which should not ever be coming in contact with the coolant.

What's more, I have no faith in these "injector cleaners" in the first place. Diesel is something of a solvent itself and it is flowing out of the nozzles which is the only thing that could be cleaned by these "cleaners". If your injector nozzles are clogged by something that diesel fuel and fire/heat won't clean off through normal use, there is an underlying mechanical problem that needs addressed.

You didn't say what year your truck is, but I had the same problems you are having. But my truck was even worse, it reached a point of being plain gutless. I have 115,000 miles on my Excursion. I tried injector cleaners and they helped a little but what REALLY helped was a jug of Hot Shot Secret oil additive. THIS STUFF WORKS. It cleans your injectors and eliminates "stiction". Google it for more info and there are a few threads on this site for Hot Shot. All I can say is that my old truck is back and runs fantastic and no, I don't own stock in this stuff.
