Injector issues?

My 03 injectors were replaced about 90K miles ago, I have 186K now. I am now experiencing similar issues at start up when the ambient temp is below about 75 as I did when they went bad before. I have been reading up on replacing them myself and plan on having my truck scanned at Pensacola Fuel Injection beginning of next week. It is running rough on cold start up for a few seconds then clears up. The other thing I noticed is that when I rev the engine up to 3K-3500 in park there is a noticable miss that I do not notice driving under load. This would lead me to think injectors. My question is, am I leaning the right direction with the injectors? They will sell me 04.5 injectors that are completly rebuilt for 149.00 each. I also have purchased an EGR delete that I can do at the same time while I am tearing the top end apart. I do not mind how long it will take me to do it since I have spare vehicles to drive. I have read the process and it seems well within my realm of capabilities. Thoughts, comments, and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

If you have access to a scanner it can tell you which ones are bad. Also replacing the injectors has nothing to with the top of the engine. Good Luck

It could be the spool valve in the injector sticking on cold starts. If it persists during warm running (if you have a miss, surging, rough running) I would be concerned.

I have to ask, why are you revving it so high when unloaded? If it isn't missing when under load, why are you concerned?

I would suggest you spend 10 minutes and GOOGLE/Research Pennsacola Injectors. I am shopping for new injectors Myself and found the various opinions of that particular vendor very interesting.

Just do your research.

I live just a few minutes fro Pensacola Diesel, there local reputation is second to none. I have done limited business with them and have been happy thus far.

I reved the motor a few times to that before I loaded the turbo just in case any more metal shavings were in the manifold from the pyro install. Unloaded the turbo does not spool near as much therefore less likelyhood of meatl damage just in case. Also a miss is a miss loaded or unloaded. I depend on my truck to make my living aand if it goes down 1 day I loose more money than if I go ahead and find the problem and fix it. Prevenative Maintanence.

Speedrcr78, Thanks it is at Pensacola Fuel Injection now getting scanned. I have read several tech articles on replacing injectors and you have to take a lot of parts off the top of the motor just to make life easier on yourself to change the injectors. Since it is started this is the time to install it. I also have to install manifold gaskets because mine have started leaking some. If there are any other ideas where I can get good reman injectors for around this price that info would be greatly appreciated.

OK have an update that makes me lean even harder to injectors even though PFJ scanned and read all normal. This morning it was a muggy 36 degrees out, (I need to move further south LOL) I cranked the truck up and it smoked quit a bit and ran loike dog crap for a good 10-15 seconds missing real hard. This is exactly what it did to me a few years ago in Maryland and they replaced 6 injectors. (2 had already been replaced a few months earlier.) I am going to take it to PFJ again since we are staying in the 30's for a low for a while and seeing if they can pick it up. I want to buy injectors while I have the cash. Since I have not worked in 2 months we are starting in on the savings LOL. Part of me is thinking go ahead and do them but I would like to make sure that is the problem before I dump 1500 bucks and a weekend of my time to do this. Feedback always appreciated. Thanks.

I also wanted to add I noticed my truck gicing off a light blue smoke that was a very strong diesel smell when I was ideling loading a car up one night it was also cold out them as well. This would be a leaking injector right?
