Just bought '05 with a recalibrate part number and filename!!

As in my topic, I was wondering what was done when the dealer recalibrated the PCM. The sticker reads as follows:

PCM Recalibrate
part # 5U3A-12A650-KNB
filename: VXGFON5

I've heard horror stories from guys who've had their truck recalibrated and I'm hoping that my truck is ok since it seems to be running fine. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Just bought '05 with a recalibrate part number and filename!!

If it seems to be runing fine, they screwed it up. I'd get it back to then and demand they make it run like crap.

They likely did the recall. Search for the very common topics regarding the recalibration for the '05's.

Haven't seen many, if any, complaints.

Re: Just bought '05 with a recalibrate part number and filename!!

If you are asking what programing changes were made, I believe, the answer is nobody knows for sure. FMC, I understand, stopped listing the specific items affected with each programing change during the 2004 MY. Over on the Flat Rate Tech message board there used to be a listing but it had not been updated in a couple years the last time I checked.

Re: Just bought '05 with a recalibrate part number and filename!!

Correct..... if we enter some specific drivability symptoms, OASIS may instruct us to ensure that the vehicle is at the latest calibration level (and that the symptoms still exist after a reflash) before we proceed with diagnostic efforts.

We are no longer told what each reflash specifically does.... we are simply told that "if you get this - do that...".

This may put some techs at loggerheads with their customers.... reflashing is now part of the diagnostic process but some owners resist the reflash..... now the tech is in a bad area..... If he doesn't reflash and the reflash would have cured the concern - he may not get paid...

Re: Just bought '05 with a recalibrate part number and filename!!

Thanks for the reply guys. I didn't realize that things are like this now. I know when we got our 7.3L engine codes updated, they told us what the change was but evidently that's changed.
