Just cleaned my egr valve

My 2004 shows 2 codes on egr valve. It has no power at all. I cleaned the egr today and nothing changed. Do I need to just buy a new one or any of you have any ideas. My Ford dealership recomends that I send out the intake to get special cleaning. Any of you heard about this? It also costs about a $1000.00

Many times cleaning egr valve is not very effective. If you still have issues after cleaning, you will most likely need to replace valve. Ford no longer recommends cleaning if they are sticking, they recommend replacement. Our dealer has been hit up about an intake cleaning procedure that runs chemicals through intake to remove carbon deposits. We felt it was overpriced and sceptical about how effective it would be. For what it cost to perform procedure, I would recommend removing intake and steamcleaning. With intake off and steamcleaning, you can visually see that the carbon/coking is removed from intake.

yeah replace the valve. most dealers are doing the bg service, i think it works pretty good, i always steam clean an intake when i have it off for a repair but that still doesnt always get it all out. But with the induction flush you get the ports in the heads and the valves which also get allot of build up, and it also take care of the exhaust side like the veins in the turbo and inside the egr cooler. bg also has a fuel injector flsuh and oil flush and i think if you do all three which includes an oil change, i think that usually costs close to 1000. but i think at my dealer the intake flush is around 550?

To keep costs down, do you think I would be OK just putting the new egr in and not cleaning the intake?

Look down in intake once valve is removed. If there are excessive deposits, break loose what you can and vacuum out of intake. That is all we do at our shop. Only time intake is cleaned/steamcleaned is when intake is removed for engine repairs.
