Re: Just had Rear Main Seal Replaced
Jesus, and you take it back to the same dealer again and again. Not smart, they obviously don't have an idea of what is going on. I bet the replace the seal, clean everything off and it takes about 2 weeks or so to start seeping down into sight or on the floor? How far off am I?
Take it to anothner good dealer with lots of diesel sales and service, you can drive through and tell in an instant if they are servicing medium duty trucks and diesels on top of that. If they don't have a lot of them around move on. Go somewhere else, call around. Warranty is warranty and most dealers love to beat the other guys in sales and in terms of fixing it right the first time. Go in their with all receipts and explain your situation to them, they more then likely will fix it right. I had a dead AC system when the truck was delievered, the place I bought it from got two chances, both times it lasted less the 8 hours. Went to a better dealer, they found what those guys did wrong and had it fixed in less then a day, kept it on the gauges over night and all was sealed up like it should be. Been going perfect ever since. They have found other things on other trucks that some dealers said wasn't a problem. My service business is always with these guys now, no question about it.
I'm thinking your seal isn't a problem, how is it a rear main seal can throw oil up and out of the trans to engine interface and then have it leak down the sides of the bell housing. This oil isn't under any extreem pressures and it just sounds wrong. I would clean it all up yourself, get under their and look until you find it. A bright flash light (not mag light either, something along the lines of surefire lithium lights). Look above the bell housing on the block, around the exhaust, around the glow plug bars, along the head gaskets and so on.
