I put mine on today and I ended up grinding the U shape(that goes under the grommet) deeper, so the bracket goes up higher. My filter would have been sitting on top of the a/c line if I didn't grind it deeper.
Anybody know why the bracket that holds the filter & housing on is so big and extends the filter away from the radiator? I don't have very much room to get the filter on/off. I had to take the filter housing off to get the filter on, then bolted the housing back onto the bracket.
Be thankful you have enough room to mount the filter under the hood! Vans have to mount it outside of the engine compartment - either behind the bumper or on the frame by the fuel filter.

I just used the same procedure to do my first filter change. Unbolted two 9/16" bolts, removed the filter housing from the bracket, lifted it up, swapped the filters, re-built everything in reverse order.
I noticed my coolant is slimey. I don't remember coolant being slimey, really. Is that unique to Ford's coolant?
I also found some dried coolant sludge inside the lip of the filter. Is that indicative of coolant getting past the seal and collecting on top of the filter & drying out?

Yep, no place under the hood. I forgot who I spoke to at The Diesel Site but he said that they were starting to make kits for the van an well. I believe the difference is that there is no radiator mounting bracket and that they send a bunch more hose. I ended up with about 5 ft of left over hose.
On a side noted I would recommend using a ratcheting PVC pipe cutter to cut/splice the lines, especially the heater line.
BTW, thanks for your photos, they were helpful.

does this help filter out problems i am having with my egr valve sludging up?
bwohnus - sorry, but you've very likely got a failed EGR and oil cooler. While the filter will do it's best to filter what it can - I don't believe it was designed to remove oil.
If you have a way to monitor your engine oil temp along with the water temp you will very likely see that the oil temp, which should never be more than 14 degrees higher than your water temp, will be a lot higher than that.
Either way, oil in the water is a very bad thing. Search this site for failed EGR and oil coolers and you'll see what I mean.
wera1976 I guess doing acomplete coolant flush might help and clean out the degas bottle. Make sure you use ford approved coolant. By the way did you cut open your old coolant filter? Curious to know what was in there. I am still on my first filter.
