I have a 05 with the 6.0 psd my lie-o-meter does not seem to update very quickly I can drive for about 50 mi before it even changes and the milage is off I can hand calc and get 17.3 and the lie-o-meter will only show 14 maybe 15 is this normal for these trucks
You'll have to reset the meter often to get it close. It seems to average all engine run time including idel. Averaging a few O's into the calc wrecks the shown value.

Well yeah its going to calculate idle time. If it didnt it wouldnt be even close to being accurate. Fuel mileage includes all fuel used, not just while moving.
Instead of calling it a lie-o-meter---why don't you just turn it off-----jeesh--all the extras just make people more picky-----what did you do 15 years ago when we all had manual locks and windows and no fuel mileage meter------get real!!!!!!!
Supercrew let me get this straight you buy a truck with all the goodies and they dont function as they are supposed to and all you can say is turn them off sounds like you need to get real and as a sidenote our 1987 areostar van had all the goodies and they all worked as they were supposed to even the mileage meter same for our 2001 exped.

Yeah, get rid of your powerful new truck and go buy an old beat up F-1 and stop complaining. Don't let technology and progress rule you life. Think backwards and live in the past. If your not suffering, your not having fun. JEESH.......
Seems the mileage-O-meter varys from truck to truck. My meter reads 1.2 to 1.5 mpg too high. And I reset it every fill up.

If I remember correctly from reading the owners manual the fuel average is continually updated using the last ten miles of driving. Knowing this will help you to understand why it's read out and your hand calculation will almost never be the same.

I had to pull out my 2004 Owner's Guide to check this. It only says that it averages fuel economy since the last time it was reset. It doesn't give any maximum miles.
Wekiwa, when you say "reset the meter" what exactly do you mean? Are you referring to the odometer or something else? I too cannot stand how inaccurate the onboard computer is. If tehre is a way to calibrate or reset, I'd like to know how to do it.
When I plan on idling my truck for any extended period of time. I'll jack up one wheel and put the tranny into Drive. That way, it fools the computer into thinking its moving and my overhead readout is right on with my hand calculation.
