I'm on a roll today.
For those of you that have had the trucks that ate lifters, what was the actual reason and damage?
I'm playing detective. My iron levels have been very high and I'm starting to get concerned that a "tick" that is obvious on the passenger side of the motor could be a lifter as that seems to have been what some described before their truck ate one. I'm trying to figure out if it's possible that a lifter could be wearing the bore causing increased iron levels as well as being the source for the tick.
The truck runs great, but I remember posts my those with great trucks, never in the shop, that ate a lifter after 40k, 50k, 60k miles. I'm at 43k miles and getting to where I need to decide whether I really will or should keep this one for a while, or replace it.

I didn't know lifters were an issue on the 6.0 PSD. Neverless as to you bore wearing post, I've seen a lot of cam lobes ground off from lack of lube. and/or when the lifter quits spinning, but haven't seen very many with lifter bore damage/wear. Under normal conditions there isn't that much side lobe on a lifter.
ps: Can you hear a lifter clicking over the noise the 6.0 makes even when it's in good condition? I don't think I can. It would have to be quit loud.

That's why I'm concerned. It's always had a "tick" that is obvious and can even be heard with the hood closed and standing on the front passenger wheel if you're listening for it. It could be something else, and I'd love to find out it is if so.
Oh, and I wouldn't say lifter were a 6.0 problem, but I recall seeing a few posts and it seems as though they were similar circumstances.

[/ QUOTE ]I have never seen any SFA'S from International on Lifter issues on the VT-365 and I work at a Dealership. There were some rocker arm Issues on Early Build 03's where the Tip ball was breaking off. This was on the Very first production run and was taken care of quickly in a revised design.Although I have replaced alot of Cams in DT-466'S for Lifter Failures where the Roller trashed itself. They say they had a Bad run of Cams where the Hardness was Not up to spec and the Lobe started breaking down. This was DT-466 only though and NOT related to the VT-365 in anyway. Sometimes the Tick you hear is actually the Intensifier piston in the Injector bottoming out or possibly the Spool valve shuttleing away doing its thing
