Limited slip issues

My F250 has a limited slip diff. It has always worked fine but now it is not. I got stuck in the yard at my house and had to use 4 wheel drive to get out. It pissed me off so when I got to pavement I smoked the tires. Well, I smoked one tire. What the heck is wrong.

Have you ever changed the fluid? If so did you add 8 oz. (236 ml) of Additive Friction Modifier XL-3 or equivalent meeting Ford Spec EST-M2C118-A for complete refill of limited slip axles. If not you may want to add this and it should help. I know AMSOIL makes it here is a link: Slip Lock™ Differential Additive (ADA)

The additive makes the clutches slip smoothly to reduce chatter/wheel hop. If it's slipping now, more additive will make it really slip.

mlsteele, if your transmission behaves the way my 4R100 behaves, you might try this if you're ever in a similar situation again.
Try starting out in 2nd gear instead of drive. At least in the 4R100, the truck actually starts out in 2nd gear if you put it into 2, so you aren't slipping the wheels as much as you would with the low gear of 1st gear. I''ve got 2wd, and LS, and the LS has left me stuck in my yard and stuck in a ditch before. I started using 2nd gear instead of D or 1st gear to get the truck moving, and I haven't gotten stuck since.
I don't know if they improved the LS in the later model superdutys or not, but for the earlier ones (99-2001), the LS was (and still is) a joke. jst my .02 cents worth
