I did mine (actually just cleaned/repacked them) as part of a ball joint replacement. Just skip the parts that don't apply.

The bearings are very expensive (if not replaceable) if you are already doing ball joints but if just doing bearings pull the bubs and stop at step #15 then reverse without pulling the axle and knuckle. Depending on the design of your hub you may need the whole hub assembly. For ball joints, the DIY route saves well over $700 compared to a shop. For bearings only it would save a couple hundred or more. My bearing s were OK and I just repacked them. It doesn't take bravery just force and common sense...I was running low on both the day I did mine.

Darn good write up! Im bookmarking that one, so make sure you dont move it. I havent had to do Ball Joints yet at 175k, but they were done at 40k before I bought the truck because they have the zerks.
I have a sneaking suspicion that my left bearings are on the way out. Thanks!

Go to POWERSTROKEHELP.COM - The Information Source for Ford Power Stroke Diesel Owners. It is a video that shows how to replace the bearings.

Hope this helps.

Ok this video needs to be added to a sticky someplace. I did not realize it was so straight forward. Since I own two 4x4 super-duties this is important to know. Thank you for posting this link.
