Listen to this

Dropped the truck off again for oil leak, lost count but its either the 4th or 5th time. They called my and said its ready, rear main seal again. But they think its the aftermarket exhaust that is causing extra heat and making the seal fail. I asked well what made it fail the first three times and his reply was "we only talking about this time." He refused to help with DSB process. Is this something i can start myself or do I need a dealership to start it? Or anyone in Tampa area that has a helpful dealer. I dont want to bring it to Brandon Ford again because it looks like they tring to lay the ground work for a warranty voiding, which is crap. We all know the aftermarket exhausts run cooler. Thanks in advance.

Re: Listen to this

What dealership did you say that was? BRANDON FORD? Was that BRANDON FORD???

That is truly unbelievable, did he actually say that with a straight face?

Re: Listen to this

I'd tell him there is a much higher probability that inproper diagnosis and/or repair procedures are causing it than aftermarket exhaust. I agree with the last post that if the exhaust had any influence, it would be a reduction in temperatures - I doubt that exhaust temp has much impact at all on crankcase oil temp though.

Good Luck!

Mark

Re: Listen to this

Aftermarket exhaust making it too hot and failing? Is he serious? How and why doesn't OEM exhaust do it? What's the difference? Don't let him say innsulation, Ford dropped the insulation on the DP in late '03.

Holy cow, for it to get hot enough to make the rear main fail, there shuld be discoporation on metal surfaces around it and you'd be in danger of starting a fire.

Jeez, where do these service people come up with this crap?

Re: Listen to this

Did you ask him what test instruments he used to measure the "extra heat"? How long long was the test? What benchmark of excessive heat did he use?

You get the idea.

Re: Listen to this

Good points, I wish I would have thought of that. I tried my best to bite my tounge because at least they were still willing to work on it and not try to void the warranty. Honestly I was just in shock. I cant believe someone would come up with that idea. Thats exactly why I have not done one other mod to the truck. I wish I had not done the exhaust for it to be even an option for them to blame.

Re: Listen to this

What is the DSB I might need it if they don't fix the oil leak this time. Forth time this time. I had a bush guard put on this year in Florida. It's a wounder they don't say that is what is causing the oil leak. Good luck on your fun with Ford. Don't be supprise when they charge you for new oil when they pull your engine. Re: Listen to this

They replaced RMS again & covered under warr. correct? Your warr. has not been voided, correct?

I can see the headaches etc. for you, perhaps your thinking what if it starts leaking again? The info. is in your o.guide book. Maybe this time will be ok.

Good luck...OT

btw...I would imagine by now someone else is asking/wondering why all the RMS replacements. hint..who ever is paying for warr. repairs/seal failures/supplier etc. JMO!

Re: Listen to this

Sounds like what the dealer told me. The service manager told me that my truck was smoking blue smoke because I had aftermarket exhaust....

Re: Listen to this

Did they happen to check your glow plug harness o-rings - if they leak it comes out very near the rear main seal and can look like it failed. You can look yourself to see if these are leaking. It where the harness plugs into the block. It will be wet just below and along the ridge .
