They LIE!!!

13-16 is the norm for most 6.0's

[/ QUOTE ]

I have an '05 F-350 DRW with 4.10 gears and 3600 miles. I just got back from a trip from Minneapolis, MN to Elkhart, IN. I mostly drove 68MPH on the freeway. First tank of fuel I got over 18 MPG, but I didn't top it off all the way like I did when I left home. I added another gallon to the fill and still got 17.5 MPG or so. After the second fill (topped it off all the way), I was at 16 MPG, but I had driven at least 150 miles around town. I have not filled up yet from the last leg of the trip, so I don't have the total MPG yet.

I was expecting no better than 15 MPG. I was shocked to get 17.5 MPG. The extra mileage plus $2.019 diesel at Gary, IN really helped the old pocketbook.

About the only thing you will miss is the mileage. My old 7.3 was much better on fuel than the 6.0.

[/ QUOTE ]

Really? The guys at the dealer were saying it <should> get 20-22 MPG.

[/ QUOTE ]

Har! You've been talking with a confidence man. Try 16-17 with better than 60% highway driving; less around town.

Runs like a scalded bunny....best truck I've owned.

Better milage <and> power with a tuner - yeah.

Re: Looking At An '05

The problem with comparing mileage is that it has a LOT to do with your driving habits.

If I take it easy on my PSD (no fast starts from traffic lights, keeping it between 60-65 on the highway, etc.) I can get 17-18 MPG combined city/highway.

If I let my driving habits get out of hand (fast starts, 70+ on the highway), 17-18 will quickly drop to 15-16 or even lower.

I traded a 2004 Lariat Crew Cab F350 SRW in for a 2005 Lariat LE Crew Cab F350 DRW and the 2005 has a lot more power and the suspension is great. Also I can really notice the improved turning diameter when manevering in parking lots etc. I love my truck..I have had no problems as of yet but...it only has about 1200 miles on it right now. I'm only getting about 13mpg..but I mainly drive in the city. I think you'll make a good choice with the 2005 Lariat model...especially if get the luxury and tow command package. Good Luck!

Re: Looking At An '05

Buy the truck! I am just coming up on 1000 miles with mine and I can tell you I couldn't be happier (already) !! I've only towed my 5er once (10K lbs) and got about 10mpg. 100% small town/city driving and I get about 13mpg. And on the highway (100%), I get about 18-19mpg (80mph). I drive pretty conservative... get on it a little once in a while, but not much. The mileage is worse than my 97 was around town, better than my 97 on the interstate and real close to the same towing. However, the power flat out BLOWS away my 97 and it was chipped w/exhaust and intake and at the time I thought it ran pretty good .

You exaggerate. I only get 16mpg when I'm driving around 82mph. Just because you get crappy gas mileage doesn't mean we are liars.

PS - Get the 6.0, I love it so much more than my old 7.3.

Really? The guys at the dealer were saying it <should> get 20-22 MPG. My 7.3 gets 18 on a good day with a tailwind.

What kinda mileage are you getting with your 6.0?

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't think so, I have had 2 6.0's and have always watched the post for mileage on those engines. If you want to take a SALESPERSON's claim of 20-22mpg for these trucks then by all means go ahead a buy one, theres one born every minute.

While some of these trucks get high teens even a occasional 20mpg that is NOT the Normal mileage that most of us get.

Re: Looking At An '05

For what it's worth,

My 05 is getting about 18 to 20 on the highway (67 to 73 mph).

City is about 13 to 15.

Mine is a crewcab long bed 4x4.

I also don't drive very hard. (consciously try to save fuel)

Get it with tow command and upfitter switches.

[/ QUOTE ]
I'm curious what some of you are using the upfitter switches for (other than some specialized things like a snow plow or winch)?

Ford has programming on the 05's to use SEIC with the switches. I suppose any switch would work, though

Stationary Elevated Idle Control = new version of the old AIC/APCM.

It's free. just connect the wire to the switch of your choice (#4 is what most people do)
