Low oil level shut-down?

While idling in traffic eased up just off idle to move up and when I let off the pedal it died and will not fire. Up to that point it ran perfectly with no misses or hiccups. I will admit that I do have an oil leak where the oil pan is rubbing on the cross member and I think it has worn pinholes in the pan. I guess my question is if it were low on oil and the injectors shut down will it restart if I refill with oil? I will say that I park where I cant tell how much oil has leaked out. I had plans on repairing the pan before this happened. My truck is an 04 king ranch F-250 6.0. What else could it be? I need suggestions. Thanks guys and gals

Why is your oil pan rubbing on the crossmember? You have much more serious issues then a non running truck if you are driving around with the engine's oil pan rubbing on the crossmember.

IF it were to run out of oil, it will restart with alot of cranking and a full sump of oil. However, there is no telling if any damage was done to the turbocharger or other critical engine parts when you "ran out of oil".

Um, fix it now.

It will die once the oil gets to about 7-8 qts. This is because the oil pressure is so low that it can't supply enough pressure to feed the HPOP. Seems kind of strange you would let a leak potentially damage a $13k (used for that price) engine. Why not fix it? As said, there is no reason the engine should be hitting anything, if it is then check your engine mounts (put a jack under the pan and see if either side of the engine lifts up be gentle and use a block of wood) you may have one that failed. You can change the mount yourself or even the cross member if it is bent. Since the oil pan is about $300, once you have the problem fixed drain the oil, clean the pan well, scuff up and slather on some jb weld on to the damage. Let it cure and you should be ok. I would not drive it until you can fix it. Good luck

Depending on where it is hitting, I would be concerned with the condition of the oil pickup tube as well.
