Massive engine repair, leaks oil now, dealership wont warranty

Hello,

Hoping to get some good advice on how to approach the dealership, ( maybe a technicians or sevice managers point of view)

Truck, 2003 F-250 6.0, 140,000 miles, I was out of town and the truck started missing something terrible, shut it down and then no start. Took to the local dealership, short story is $6000.00, new low pressure pump, front cover, HPOP, fuel pump, and 3 injectors, and I am back up and running.

Truck ran good, hooked up to my 5th wheel, Headed home, got home Friday eavening, Monday morning went to work, went ouside about an hour after I got to work and had a 4" oil drip circle under my truck at the front of the engine, contacted the dealership that I just got the work done, and they advised me to go to any Ford dealership, took it to a local shop, $544.00 later, they explain to me that the new low pressure oil pump cover seal was leaking due to a worn groove on the crankshaft, they also said that anyone with 6.0 experience would of known this and would of installed a crank sleeve kit.

I contacted the first dealership and sent the work order to them, talked to the sevice manager a few times and he said the General manager has to make the call, Its been over a week now and cant get them to return my calls,

Looking for any advice that might help, short of going postal or taking a big Fricken Hammer to my 6.0 .

Thanks

Take a big Fricken hammer to the dealership that did the work - it's not the engine's fault! Seriously - contact the regional manager and the customer reps directly at Ford. Let them know you will take it to the press if they fail to back their work.

cb...curious..did u contact orig. dealer about oil leak found by new dealer/tec. BEFORE repairs performed? If as your told..hopefully orig. dealer takes care of it. Your complaint (so far) is with orig. dealer/tec. repair NOT fmc. & that's probably what fmc rep. will tell you. But, getting it on record cant hurt. JMO! Good luck!

Yes sir, I did contact original dealership first, service manager that worked with me is the one told me to take to another authorized Ford service center, and he stated that if it was parts or craftmenship that was to blame, then it would be covered.

AS far as FMC I contacted them today and you are correct, they said they would make contact to let the dealership know there was a complaint, but there isnt any thing they can do since the dealerships are independintly owned.

I am due a new truck and this sure is turning me to other avenues for a tow vehicle, really considering a mid 80s model 454 gas motor truck. THose trucks moved the world before the diesel trucks came along. Sure as heck cheaper to work on.

They might have moved the world but it wasn't the same world that a diesel can move. You remember the saying "They don't build them the way they used too" Well that's right thank god.

Ermmmm, the factory installed seal doesn't have a wear sleeve... However - the replacement seal comes with a wear sleeve and they must both be installed at the same time using a special tool. The workshop manual also cautions us not to remove the wear sleeve from the new seal and that they must be installed as a unit.

FWIW, these same considerations apply to the rear crank seal...

GrampyJim, What you are telling me would really be helpful if I had in writing, would it be possible to get a .pdf copy of those pages or a reference # from the Work manual that I would be able to send to the Service Manager that is working with me?

I spoke with him yesterday and I expressed the fact that the truck didnt have oil leak issues, it had a no start problem and then came out of his shop with a massive oil leak. He said he would talk to his tech (the same one that caused this problem) and call me back, didnt sound to promising, He kept saying that the new seal should hold better than the old seal. Sounded to him like I had an oil leak from the start.

Thanks for any help,

cbly

PM me with your e-mail and I'll send you a .pdf .

Otherwise, your dealer could <GASP> look in the manual for themselves (assuming any of them can read) - section 301-01C in the 2003 workshop manual under the head "In Vehicle Repair" subheading "Crankshaft Front seal".

Honestly, if any of these techs has his Ford diesel engine certification, he should be aware of the caveates on front and rear seals as common knowledge. It's idiots like that who embarass the rest of us.

Angry

Well I finally heard back from the service manager and he said that they are not going to compensate me for the oil leak, said it was not there fualt the new gasket didnt work, the only option I have now is to persue in small claims court, and that has to be done in the county were they conduct business, the down side is my travel cost would be more than the amount that I would recover if I won the case, Just my luck.

THe only thing i can do now is just try to warn everyone to stay away from that dealership, ( Energy Country Ford, Port Arthur, TX. )

Contact the Better Business Bureau before going to small claims court. The BBB doesn't cost you anything but some time.

I too recommend you contact the BBB. If they are going to do business in that area it would be very helpful for the dealership to keep a clean record with them.
