May buy- need opinion-Looking at 2004 Harley Super duty 250 power stroke-should I buy
I am looking at a 2004 F250 6.0,crew cab, with 54k.. It is the Harley Davidson edition. Full leather, 4 captain seats. Clean truck on the outside. They are asking 23k for it... This would be my first diesel. I currently have a 2004 F150, with a 5.4 and like it but need 4 door, more power. Trying to read up on it and get more info. Any opinions on it. I ran a car fax on it, and had 2 owners, first sounded like a demo at the dearship and had until 11k miles and then the previous owner had it till Dec of 2008. No major accendents reported, and has been serviced. I called the local ford dealer and gave them the vin # and had them pull it, and said no major things reported, other normal service work. No turbo work, oil leaks listed or mentioned to me other than normal filters replaced, etc. It did have a EDGE juice on it, but the dealer was going to take that out, as it was done as a aftermarket. What I read on it, and understand it plugs into the computer of the truck, and no hard wire.. Is that correct? Should I be concerned that it has been modified or possibly ran harder with that device? They took it out at the dealer because no books were left with it. Should I be concerned? Was going to go test drive it again on sat and would like opions.
Does this sound like a good deal? What should I look at or have a professional look at? I test drove it last week and still thinking and wanted more advice? Help!!
well 23k is prob a little high, its an 04so depending on build date its either out of or almost outta warranty.unless they throw in extended warranty.the early 6.0s can be problematic, especially when using afternarket tuners(ie,edge, bullydog, etc).i believe the juice is plug and play,no wire cutting, but they cause raised combustion cyl pressure which can cause the headbolts to stretch and ultimatly cause head gasket failure.which basically spells expensive.so keep that in mind,if you do buy get an extended warranty, and do not mod the truck unless your gonna have head studs installed.also stay up on maintnence and drive the truck like it was meant to be driven, run it good.so good luck hopefully this helps a little
also ask for an oasis report, itll have any major repairs done

Thanks for heads up.. Do you know if that aftermarket Edge would mess with the programing of the truck if they remove it from the truck? I will defintely ask for mfg warranty or extended warranty, few people mentioned. Oasis? where do i get that? Same as a car fax? Sorry, I am new to the diesel world and want to make sure I know what I am getting myself into.
no edge shouldnt alter any programming, unless its the evolution which reprograms the pcm throught the obd II port.the juice(i believe)is strictly plug and play.looks like a small black box with long lead on it.oasis is available through your dealer, not sure if the charge for it.but itll show all work performed om the vehicle.
6.0s can be great motors they produce more power than the 7.3s did,but are not mod friendly like the 7.3

i dont own a 6.0 but i read all the forums, read up on upgrading the egr, theres a better design on ebay, consider head studs, the egr seems to be a major flaw on these motors, they clog cause higher egts(exhaust temps)and can ultimatley to hg failure.seems if you upgrade your egr and go to headstuds, the 6.0s reliabilty jumps 100 fold.but im not an expert

No sure what the market is in your area, but up here and converted to CND $ 28,000 is a going asking price on that truck.
I looked at a number of the HD super duties when I got the Lairiat, Just looks like the HD version from the out side.
Price is really relative, everyone is going to have an idea what is right. In the end you have to be happy with what you paid. I would never pay any where near the prices at Barret Jackson that cars seem to sell for, but everone of those buyers thinks he got the deal of the century.
Id say that price a little bit high, I got my Red 2006 f250 Lariat, with about 35,000 on it, shipped from Texas to MA, for $24,000 even. You can probably expect that if it had a programmer on it, it was run harder than normal. I wouldn't buy a 6' oh that had a programmer, unless I knew it had studs.
